The positives here are the location (right on the ocean), beautiful entrance and grounds and the Fig restaurant is excellent for breakfast. Food at Fig is good and the staff there is the highlight of the hotel, especially the server Chris and the host. On the negative side, and there are too many negatives for a hotel like this... 1) it is a very old hotel and they haven't updated much of it recently. For example, the air temp in the room is hard to control. If temps change much you cannot change between AC and heat yourself. They actually need to have maintenance come to your room to change it. 2) Old tubs in the bathroom with shower heads that look like they haven't been changed in 20 years. You'll find much better showers at a lower category hotel. 3) We had a problem with loud noise from the fan in the room. We called to have it fixed. They said they did but realized all they did was turn it off so the we had excessive steam in the room every time we used shower. 4) We were on the top floor. On one day maintenance was doing some work on the roof creating a scraping sound and then debris kept falling on our balcony. Called and spoke to the manager (Daniel) who insisted there was no work being done and it was "due to the wind". Asked housekeeping to clean the balcony and they said to call the front desk. At one point we got a call from the Housekeeping Manager who said "I heard you have a problem with one of my housekeepers." Really? That's your response? Eventually someone came to the room to clean the debris and he laughed and said "Yea, you're right, maintenance is on the roof doing work." After all this the manager never once called us to follow up and apologize even though he said he "would investigate" what had happened. Overall this place simply doesn't live up to the Fairmont brand or Fine Hotels standard.

We absolutely loved this hotel. It’s in a brilliant location and the staff were kind and attentive. The food and drinks were great and we loved Dog Town Coffee. We enjoyed the sushi bar but the prices are bordering on criminal. We went to Malibu Nobu one day and it was cheaper! I would thoroughly recommend staying here as a family.

We had our wedding here in September 2025, all the staff were top tier!! Hospitality was amazing!! The giant fig tree was the star of the show during our ceremony, planted in 1800’s by the founder of Santa Monica, it’s a historical monument. The ballrooms are huge, and have just a timeless feel to them. We loved the chandeliers and they looked great in photographs. Gave it a classy, vintage vibe. My wedding had vintage elements, and classic elements to it. So everything complemented each other. I needed less decor and items in the reception because it felt nice in there already. It was also very easy to work with George, who helps be your point of contact. He answered any strange or specific questions that I had within a few hours. He was great to work with. The food was unbelievable, as we did our rehearsal dinner here, and the reception here. We also stayed in a bungalow that was 2 stories, and had an ocean view with an outdoor patio! We used this as the bridal suite on the morning of the wedding to get our hair and makeup done. The next day many wedding guests all had breakfast with my husband and I at the Fig restaurant which is our favorite place to eat at as we live locally to Santa Monica. Everything was exactly how I dreamed my wedding weekend would be. I cannot recommend this property enough for food, lodging, and banquet events!! All the guests kept saying it was the nicest wedding they have ever been to, and guests still tell us that 3 months later! Cannot recommend this establishment enough!!

This hotel is well located and very comfortable rooms. I was impressively impressed by the staff – the woman on the operator line helped me with three different queries the same night, the concierge offered to store my bicycle in the bell closet, and another concierge (Jordan) used his knowledge of suits and some phone calls to help me get out of an emergency situation and find a tux at the last minute. Thanks to them a for making the extra effort with these seemingly little things that go a long way.
