Overcharging, charging without permission, policy breach, injury, no customer service. Dont stay here they take your money change your reservation to suit their own purpose and ruin your trip. We have never had a more appalling experience with a hotel. I had booked 3 nights accomodation for the last weekend in Feb 25, in October last year. In the interim I got a new job and my boss asked me to stay for a meeting in Sydney which meant that my husband had to take the kids alone to Tamworth for one night, and I flew up the next day. I called the hotel to let them know he would be checking in, and I'd arrive a day later. I was informed it was against policy to allow anyone to checkin that wasnt a member on the member rate. I explained it was my husband, and I was coming for 2 of the 3 days of the booking. The reception person told me it was against policy and they must change the booking and book my husband for one night and change my booking to 2 nights. Laughably, this cost Mercure $5 as it was less for less people. They failed to send me a confirmation for the new one night booking and i had to email to request it. When my husband arrived he was told he only had the room for one night and then they needed to move rooms the next day. He was told it was a better room, which was untrue. My husband requested one room the entire time and he was told no. Then preparing for bed our daughter cut her arm on a sharp ledge in the bathroom. The next day my husband had to get up earlier to change rooms despite having to take the kids to their sport and work. He came back to the hotel and was told he had to pay for the next 2 nights (despite the room not being in his name - against policy, but OK when it suits Mercure), they then charged him for the full amount of our original three night booking, which he didnt realise as he was so stressed trying to work and run around. I came to Tamworth late in the day and realised the issue and demanded immediate refund, while the reception person claims to have done it immediately, we dont have the refund more than 2 days later. I told her we had a BUPA gift certificate to pay and that i would not be paying that until we were refunded in our account as that was our policy. Today, we were at sport again at 745am and before returning to check out on time, I checked our credit card for the refund (not processed) only to find that I had been charged again to our account. We have now been effectively overcharged by $1011. I asked to speak to the manager repeatedly and the manager was not available. We checked out to get back to the kids sport, then an hour or so later i called the hotel to check if the manager had called back. Apparently they had (and obviously they felt no need to tell me despite having my number) and the staff had been told not to refund anything and the manager would handle everything monday. They have taken our money, injured our child and caused us a bunch of stress and time wasting. Never stay there. Avoid at all costs.

Excellent modern accommodation. Very clean, excellent bed. Easy access to the club for meals. Appreciated the elevator. Excellent customer relations from front off ice staff. While not close to main part of town it doesn't really matter if you are driving. Couldn't fault it, will return.

Clean and tidy

The room was large, clean, but very dark. The brown panelling around the wardrobe & tea/coffed making is very depressing its so dark. The bathroom was immaculate and the shower fabulous. Disappointing that when staying five days there are no draws to be able to unpack. Yes there is hanging space but you don't hang everything up and living out of a suitcase for 5 days is not ideal. The bed was very comfortable.

Stayed in a 1 bed suite with balcony. This room had some weird things going on. The safe in the room would not open. Both doors to the balcony had defective locks. There were no globes in any of the numerous lamps. No cleaning aids or tea towel in kitchen. Bathroom sink plug was jammed open. The hotel was attached to an RSL Club. Food was good. Wifi was good. Shower was good. It is a shame that Mercure’s quality control was lacking, otherwise my rating would be much better.

Good morning, We apologise your stay was not to our usual high standards. The tea towel, clothes and dishwashing liquid is located under the sink in the kitchen and we have maintenance team checking the locks on the balcony. Our bathroom sinks do not have built in plugs however, We have passed this review to senior management to be reviewed. We apologise again and hope your next stay with us is to our high standard. Great for us as we are Antique Dealers selling at the Tamworth Fair, held at the same venue as the hotel. Easy access to all the facilities, we parked our van near the entrance on Friday and did not need to move it till we left on Monday morning. Food was great, coffee also. Room was large and clean, bed comfortable. What more could you ask for!!!
