I had a very disappointing stay at Mercure Wellington Abel Tasman. The room was outdated and poorly maintained, with stains on the carpet and peeling paint on the walls. The bed was uncomfortable, and the pillows were flat. The bathroom was dirty, and the shower had very low water pressure. The staff were unhelpful and seemed disinterested in addressing my concerns. Additionally, the noise from the street made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. I would not recommend staying here.

First impressions are good. The staff are polite. The foyer is immaculate. Parking is available next door at the Wilson's building ($35 overnight through the hotel but unsure how this stacks up against regular charges). Upon first entering the room it looks tidy and modern. However when you start a closer inspection you begin to realise how run down and tired the rooms are, and that they lack a modern standard of useability. We stayed in a King Standard room (which wasn't actually a King bed but two zipped up singles so there is that annoying little dip in the middle). The TV was not smart, so you couldn't connect with a pass code and stream using your own accounts. Kitchenette offerings were basic. A jug, two mugs and two glasses. No plates and no cutlery whatsoever (single use wooden stirrers in lieu of teaspoons). Spare pillows were available for the bed but no extra blankets except for a thin woolen one that (1) didn't cover the full "king" bed, and (2) is not suitable as a topper. There was only one tiny section of net curtain (maybe 1.2m maximum to roughly 5m of window) so you couldn't open the curtains all the way up without sacrificing your privacy. So little to no natural light in the room unless you don't mind being on show. No sound proofing. You could hear all the noise from the street and hallway. The shower rose was old and water went in every direction when turned on, so a very uneven showering experience. And the ventilation in the bathroom was very basic and weak, so there were obvious signs of water damage to the walls above the shower. And the room itself was in need of a good renovation. The windows especially were in a very poor state (see photos). Overall, I think the room rate was high for what was offered. One night would be the absolute maximum length of time I'd recommend anyone stay. The more expensive rooms may have been in a better state but regardless of price point, every room should be presented in a good state. They were clean but just desperate for a bit of maintenance. I wouldn't stay again.

Definitely a budget hotel. Super friendly staff and clean and comfy bed, but that's where it ends. View from window was the roof of the building next door and wilson carpark. Anyone walking on roof could have easily broken into the room through the flimsy outside door. Lights at wilson car park shine I to room all night. Decor was tired, walls and carpet stained. Locality is the busy end of Willis St with no parking. Dodgy area after dark. Don't recommend.

A perfect location for a Wellington visit; unfortunately the hotel is like something you would get in downtown Mogadishu. Amenities in the room are dirty and/or broken. Soundproofing must have been repossessed by the builders, because the porn casting calls across the hall could be heard at full volume all night. Hallways smell of piss. Shower was busted but usable; staff fall into the "that's a shame" empathy category, moving on to the next sucker and forgetting all about you within seconds because they can do SFA about it and need to finish their next university assignment. Obviously hoping to get a gig as an emergency accommodation provider, this 'hotel' used to be OK.Avoid unless you don't mind not sleeping. PS City views means block walls. They have a prime location but are catering to the "WTF!", "IDGAF", or ho ping a rich developer will come and take the prime site off their balance sheet for a massive wedge of cash.
