Restaurant doesn't cater for non-dairy very well

Breakfast meeting in the restaurant. I eat here regularly and the staff are very freindly. I am so disappointed that they do not have non-dairy alternatives for butter. I ask every time and the waiters say they will ask the chef. Every month I ask and there is never any change. I wonder why they refuse to provide this very simple ingredient. It means that I am unable to 'butter' the bread. They do offer olive oil, but it is usually a very strong taste and doesn't go well with jam. They do provide alternatives to dairy milk for the coffee, which is much appreciated. What is it that stops them providing Olivani or some other well respected spread?

club level is an absolute disaster

booked this hotel for 4 nights at club level about mid 2022 and got an excellent rate. Room was superb. Loved it - even if I had to search for a light switch and wake up my partner every time I needed to go to the toilet at night (clearly a night light is needed). Room gets 5 stars. First night went to club level evening drinks and canapes. The staff are all saying Bonjour to the guests but clearly dont really understand what canapes are. Small selection of food, dry tiny sandwich squares (inedible), their wine list was NZ and french except for the sparkling which was a cava from Spain (why not a NZ or French?) Im used to the evening drinks and food at real club level so this was a total shock and disappointment to me. The staff member in attendance was young, and had come from the bar area, clearly had no pride or understanding of how to deal with club level guests. I might add that the following night was even worse as the young guy allocated had no idea what the food was, had lost his "cheat sheet" and did not clean up one table. Next day we went for afternoon tea. And this is even more of a joke. Tiny portions, tiny selection and the coffee machine is broken. So we had water. There is no staff member present for afternoon tea, only at drinks at night. On the 3rd day afternoon tea only a selection of two plates - including the stale tiny sandwiches again. No coffee or tea again because that machine is broken. Staff tell me it has been broken for a number of days. And, even if it was operational, there are only paper cups to use. No cups and saucers. Remember this is club level! I finally got someone to complain to and the chef and general manager appeared. The general manager told me flatly he had no time to deal with my issue because he had a dignitary arriving in ten minutes and told me to sit down and wait for him for half an hour. I have never been spoken down to like that before. I told him I would be in our room and to try the food his staff had served. Credit to him he did and didnt like it. So why had he not checked this before, who is in charge of ensuring club lounge runs like a club lounge? From that confrontation the food in club improved but the coffee machine remained broken. And Ruby came to do the evening drinks. Utterly professional, totally proactive in cleaning tables as soon as a guest left, totally engaging with the ability to communicate with hotel guests. A real asset to the hotel. Breakfast? I've had better. One morning we were sat at a table that had been set for only one person so I - along with other guests - had to get their cutlery from other tables. Our coffee order on that day was forgotten and after 20 minutes we reordered with another staff member. When I stay at club level I expect things to be perfect from check in to check out and they usually are - but not at the Sofitel Wellington. It makes me wonder if the manager or whoever is overseeing club lounge has ever stayed or experienced real club lounges. Who is this mystery person - do they actually have a person responsible for this lounge and why arent they doing their job! And as another guest remarked, its a big walk to shops. We found a great Belgian hotel in Featherstone Street open at night for food.

The hotel is not near to any choice of restaurants. Next time I would want to stay closer to civilisation. Room was nicely decorated and equipped but Uber small. But the place is totally understaffed and those there seemed Ill equipped to cope. A queue for check in. A queue for the bar. A queue to order bar food. We were told it would take 10 minutes just to have our order taken at the bar for a drink. Breakfast was disappointing. Overcooked omelette and sludge that was meant to be porridge. I hope we just hit the hotel on a bad day given other reviews. I felt sorry for the very young staff having to contend with queues asking for normal hotel requests.

The location , the staff, the general service and facilities were all excellent. The restaurant is also first class even though there were some limitations during this recovery stage. The Sofitel Club is a wonderful addition from our last visit. The only thing that I miss is there are no baths.We always feel at home and no request is too difficult.

This would have to be quietest hotel in wellington. We experienced no outside noise and really enjoyed our stay. Pleasant staff made us feel very welcome. Good room and facilities. Well presented breakfast and excellent range of foods. This would be my favourite
