This time we wanted to stay a little bit outside of the city and went to this hotel in Hongqiao. It turned out to be an amazing choice: we got a Junior suit for around 1,100 RMB/night and the quality of the rooms was perfect. Most important was the very nice staff, no matter if we had questions about the hotel, the Shanghai health code or some deliveries, we direclty got help. The breakfast is good average. Overall so far our best hotel experience in Shanghai.

See the details below: We would like to rate the Shanghai Hong Qiao Sofitel Experience as AMAZING. The rooms are very comfortable with all amenities and services. The pool & gym are well maintained. Additionally, the Extremely caring staff looked after us very well. Before our stay, Mr Aless, on behalf of the hotel leadership team, contacted us by email to find out more about us in order to prepare for us a suitable and comfortable room. Due to COVID 19 regulations, this latter explained to us what the expectations were. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. For example during our breakfast they checked whether we needed anything else. Even the GM, Mr Yap, himself passed by to wish us Happy Chinese New Year and asked us whether there was anything that he could do to make our stay more comfortable. We have invited 2 VIP guest and the Rooms Manager, Mr Aless took them on a tour and made them feel feel very comfortable. We were very impressed with the complementary drinks and snack at the lounge. The leadership pay close attention to the detail. For example, as the hotel was extremely busy during Chinese New Year, Mr Aless told us in advance the time that the breakfast area might be crowded so that we can avoid that time if we wished to. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel any international or local visitor seeking a special staycation .

The worst stay in 2021. Not any treatment for platinum members. No beverage, no room upgrade and no breakfast. The man in reception, Mr. Stone, is not any professional for what he should do. No more stay here ever.

You are absolutely right that Complimentary Room Upgrade (one category to the next) and Breakfast is included in Platinum member's benefits. However, we realized that the account you are holding is yet to be Platinum. If you need more support in this regard, we will be more than delighted to assist you. We understand your feeling that the requests were not fulfilled upon arrival. We did enjoy our 2 nights stay at this place for the first time we had tried a Sofitel. Perfect place for quiet family or couples, all the team is very thoughtful and provides a great service to us, we did enjoy almost all the facilities and my 4 year old daughter just love this place. Club lounge is a relaxing place as we were expecting ( Nicole and Chris...) were very helpful and friendly, (Stone ) at the lobby helps us with some ticket’s information about museums and surroundings, restaurant’s team are very courteous and friendly. All in all, we did appreciate the atmosphere and the professionalism of the team at this hotel. We will come back again to this hotel next time when we will come to Shanghai.

Disappointing staycation - poor food, understaffed and ill-maintained facilitates (Chris & Nicole in club were lovely)

We stayed here for a staycation in the national holiday and booked in to an executive room for four nights. We’ve stayed at many Sofitels and decided to stay here due to the brand’s reputation for great food, great service and great facilities. Due to the national holiday, the hotel was very busy. We expected this but clearly the hotel didn’t as they were unprepared and understaffed to cope with demand. In the executive lounge, the food that was served during happy hour did not reflect what was advertised, even in the elevator promo video. They had plain rice, chicken nuggets and onion rings as the main food. This was clearly in response to demand- the executive lounge was packed but there was no apparent increase in staffing. In fact, most of the time there was no food available as it was eaten by guests as soon as laid out. Secondly, the facilities were stretched and Poorly maintained. We used the gym and pool daily, but the changing facilities were often untidy and dirty. I spotted some dirty tissue and hair on the floor of the shower on day one and this was still present on day 4 of the trip. This, combined with faulty sauna, and broken jacuzzi took away from the luxury promised at the hotel. The staff in the club lounge, particularly Chris and Nicole were, however, lovely. They tried their best to look after us during our stay and even made us a special cocktail. However, they were clearly overworked and unsupported by management which meant the service was lacking when the lounge was busy. It is a shame the management didn’t utilise great members of staff who clearly have a passion for service but didn’t have the facility or freedoms to provide. We were offered a sincere apology by the general manager and had a good chat. This was greatly appreciated and we felt that our comments were taken seriously - there were many guests complaining at the time. It was a little odd that no compensation was offered for the bad parts of the stay - not even a bottle of wine or free dinner. Overall, we made the best our of the experience but feel let down by the hotel’s approach.
