Awful experience with Ibis Styles Bern City

I’ve stayed in Ibis hotels for years, but this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had — not just with Ibis, but with any hotel in my life. The service was absolutely appalling. The reception staff were shockingly unprofessional and clearly have no idea how to speak to guests. The management needs to take a serious look at what’s going on at this property. We arrived exhausted after a long journey with children and a baby, only to be told we had to wait an hour while they “fixed” a mistake caused by one of their own receptionists during booking. Incredibly, they then made us pay extra for their error. When we asked to speak to a manager, the receptionist flat-out refused. No apology, no effort to help — just complete indifference. For the price they charge, you can find far better hotels in Bern with staff who actually understand what hospitality means. Avoid this place. Think twice — or better yet, book somewhere else.

Great stay - customer service is above and beyond. There isn’t anything they won’t try to help you with. Breakfast is lovely with dairy free and gluten free options. Location is excellent with free bus when you register with reception. We had an interconnected room with the children which made it more spacious. The hotel is quiet from the road. Beds and pillows comfortable with rainwater shower heads and good aircon. Thank you!

Room: The property appears to pump a strong artificial fragrance through the ventilation system. Unfortunately, this made my eyes burn and left me feeling unwell. I tried opening the window for fresh air, but the outside road fumes were just as unpleasant. Both were off-putting and made it hard to relax. The room is very small. The bathroom layout is unusual: the toilet and shower/sink are in separate rooms, which is fine, but the sliding door design means you can only have one side open at a time. This becomes awkward and inconvenient, especially if you're sharing the room. Privacy is also lacking—the bathroom door handle is just a hole, offering little to no discretion. The rain shower is oddly placed in the corner rather than overhead, making it awkward to use. There’s also no refrigerator in the room, which would have been appreciated. Breakfast: Breakfast is self-service. You start by picking up a tray, napkin, and utensils from a station opposite the staff seating area. After your meal, you return the tray to a designated rack. The food quality was quite good. The muesli stood out with frozen berries, currants, nuts, and seeds. Hard-boiled eggs were cooked perfectly and easy to peel. The shredded potatoes were delicious. They also offered bacon, a white sausage, cheese, assorted breads, yogurt, and scrambled eggs (though they didn’t appear to be freshly cracked). Staff were friendly and helpful. Value: For an IBIS, this is a perfectly acceptable hotel. However, I personally struggled with the price. It has the feel of a hostel—individual rooms, but minimal amenities. At 300 usd per night, it’s hard to justify the cost for such a basic space. That said, hotel prices in Bern and Switzerland overall are quite high. Location: The hotel is not conveniently located. I chose it hoping to get better value by staying farther from the city center. Overall: Clean and functional with a good breakfast and friendly staff, but the fragrance in the room, awkward bathroom layout, and high cost for limited amenities made it a tough value proposition.

Amazing hotel near city center. You have everything you need nearby and also in the hotel. 5 minutes by bus to city. Staff and breakfast are amazing. The only thing to make it perfect is the room should be bigger. But I would repeat the experience
