Sofitel Xining

Property is nice, but overall experience is not worth the money. Organisation of parking lot is a disaster, massive lines at Checkin (waiting time exceeds 20 minutes), breakfast with extremely limited choices of healthy dishes and chaotic organisation, happy-hour in lounge with limited choices (meat only). Promised bathroom amenities turned out to be cheap copies of European products. Management is clearly not able to handle the masses.

When we arrived it was hard to communicate in English, which we hadn’t expected from a European luxury hotel chain. Butthen a lady with excellent English was called and everything went very smoothly. Our first room had a smell of smoke, so she apologized and even gave us a suite! It was very spacious, clean and comfortable, furnished in Frenchstyle with two bathrooms, living room and bedroom. The breakfast buffet was very good, too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

It was surprising that my meal was nothing like what I ordered. I guess the expectation of it being one of the better restaurants in Xining that made me feel like I'd been ripped off when I left. I guess I could have returned the food but I ate it and left. All I can say is dont expect in terms of quality much but do expect to pay when the bill arrives.

excellent hotel with generous room upgrade. the whole building has been well designed both exteriorly and interiorly. the hors d oeuvres food has been great with massive meat load. the room has been very clean.

New hotel, well designed and appointed. Luxury room was large enough, with an openable window and a small but sufficient work area. Bathroom fixtures and amenities were top quality, except for q-tips, which were too flimsy. Hotel service very helpful, even when English was a bit of a problem. Food - so-so. I only tried the main western restaurant for a few meals and it was very underwhelming. In fact, coffee was very bad. However, when ordering a drink in the lobby bar it came with a plate of nice macarons and other sweet nibbles. A special mention for the recreational facilities on the third floor - they were excellent. Snooker room, ping-pong room, two yoga/multipurpose rooms, large and very bright gym. Swimming pool not deep and irregular shape, but large enough for a 3-4 people to swim laps. Have to watch for people just playing in the water on the cross-diameter because there are no actual lanes. Locker room was very large with lots of lockers, dry sauna and steam room. On the opposite side of the floor there are several game rooms for majong, which I'm sure can be adapted to cards or anything else. Rooms equipped to have tea service and have a private toilet. Overall a very good facility.
