There are three things impressed me including hospitality of employees of the hotel, great location and diversification of breakfast choices. The hotel is connected to Yongsan station via a sky bridge which takes 500m by walk and there is a CU store inside the area of hotel, its pretty convenient.

After staying 8 nights at the Grand Mercure next door, my family travelled to Jeju and needed to stay somewhere in Seoul for 2 nights before we flew back to the US. We were originally supposed to stay at The Shilla, but changed to the Novotel because it was going to be raining in Seoul for those 2 days. The location is next to the Yongsan Station and Ipark Mall where you can walk completely covered to, so this made it a no brainer for us. The Grand Mercure did not have any availability, but I figured since they were both 5 stars, that were connected, I thought all I was sacrificing was space in the room. Check In had a long line. Even though Check in is supposed to be different for the Suites vs the regular room, they direct you into the same line. Took about 20 minutes to check in. We booked a one bedroom suite, because we have a young son, it gives a chance to let him sleep in the room early, and my wife and I to hang out without having to be quiet with the lights off. The room we were given had the door between the two rooms removed and the opening taped up. We waited 30 minutes for someone to see that it wasn't a defective door, but just that the door was taped over and another 30 minutes to get the new room. Luckily they had another room. The suites have 4 elevators that service it, but one was being used as an express to the 39F only. Which means we only had 3 elevators for this part of the hotel. This would not have normally been a problem, but for some reason, the 2nd floor these elevators service the bridge between Yongsan station and the hotel and always had 10 people going in or coming out. Made waiting for the elevator super long and forced us to let 2-3 elevators pass full. Overall the room is comfortable. The kitchenette was important for us to be able to wash bottles and store milk in the mini fridge. I am unsure how the Grand Mercure next door and the Novotel have the same star rating. They were wildly different experiences and overall quality.

Not a 5 star hotel

More of a 3 star hotel than a 5 star hotel. First this first is, how do you not provide toothbrush and toothpaste for amount this hotel charges. Sofa bed is not what it looks like on picture. The way sofa bed was set up, it was sloppy. TV is not even a smart TV. Signs say to check in on the 26th floor, but no one was there. I’m writing this review in the middle of my stay, to show how disappointed I am with this hotel.

Follow-Up Stay -- Still Happy and Additional Feedback

I just completed my second stay at the hotel after a 3-day interim for a domestic trip. This is a follow-up to my review titled “Most Convenient and Comfortable Hotel in Seoul,” written on Nov 11, 2023. I still highly recommend the hotel to all types of travelers with a budget. I was actually given the exact same room as my first stay, which made me feel like coming home. After having more time to experience the hotel, I wanted to add to my first review, which is lengthy and detailed. Visitors may notice some barren areas around the hotel as the Yongsan area is being developed into a major business/transportation hub. It in no way detracts from the hotel's proximity to shopping, eating, entertainment and businesses. A positive is that it reduces traffic around the hotel. Compared to hotels located in downtown Seoul or Kangnam, transportation to Incheon or Gimpo Airports is about 20-30 minutes faster as the hotel is located right next to a major artery leading to the airports. A risk for travelers staying at downtown hotels is the frequent demonstrations and protests held near City Hall. This results in road closures and congestion around the hotels and delays transportation. The convenience store at the hotel gets crowded during busy times. One tip is to cross the large street at the entrance of the hotel, where there are many restaurants and convenience stores. There is also an E-Mart (Korea's Walmart) at the IPark Mall (5-10 min walk), where you can find almost anything a traveler would need. On the flip-side, I also noticed some areas where things could be better. Fitness Center - I used the gym daily and found the Fitness Center reception staff to be less welcoming vs others. They didn’t pro-actively offer access to the sauna facilities and their greetings are erratic. They seem to cater more to the health club members rather than hotel guests. Note that there is a policy of not allowing in people that are heavily tattooed. Room - The in-room laundry machine is a luxury but I recommend allocating at least 3-4 hours to completely wash and dry clothes. There is also no large clock in the room, which I found inconvenient. Rooftop - I went to open-air Sky Park lounge on the roof of the hotel to take pictures. The views are fantastic but taking pictures was a challenge due to all the glass windowed walls being dirty. In conclusion, I highly recommend the hotel to all types of travelers except those on a tighter budget. I think the hotel is a great value but if you want to save money on hotels, then this is not the best option. The overall service quality was consistent with my first stay….impeccable. Some staff I'd like to thank are: Receptionists Jennifer Song, Clare An, and Jalynne Lee and Mr. Jun Hwang (Sales Manager). I have already booked 2 more stays for Dec 2023 and Mar 2024 and look forward to those trips.

Estuvimos hospedados en este hotel en el piso 39. La habitación era una suite con lavadora, plancha y cocineta. Con una vista panorámica de Seúl. Desayuno incluido, muy completo y delicioso. El único inconveniente es que a veces está muy lleno y se debe esperar hasta 20 minutos para tener una mesa. Tiene acceso directo a la estación de Yongsan de metro y trenes y a un centro centro comercial. Sin duda lo recomiendo!
