Downgrade Other Side of the Moon…

It has been a while since we last celebrated our anniversary at Pullman Bunker Bay, and we have always loved dining at Other Side of the Moon. The food quality used to be a highlight of our visits and something we genuinely looked forward to. However, our most recent experience was unfortunately disappointing. The menu looked very similar to previous years, so we decided to order some of our usual favourites – the duck liver parfait, tiger prawns for entrée, and a 400-gram wagyu rump steak to share. From the beginning, we noticed a decline in quality. The duck liver parfait portion was extremely small and lacking in flavour. The tiger prawns were dry and appeared overcooked. It felt as though the dishes had been downgraded or cost-reduced compared to our previous visits. The main course was served very quickly while we were still eating our starters. We politely asked the waitress about the timing, and she explained that the kitchen might have been busy. As it was a Saturday evening, we understood and accepted the situation. Unfortunately, the wagyu steak, which we ordered medium rare, was very tough and rubbery in texture despite being labelled as wagyu. The fries were, regrettably, the best part of the meal. We have genuinely loved Other Side of the Moon over the years, which is why we felt it was important to share this feedback when paying. We also asked whether the chef had changed. Initially the staff denied it, but after hearing our comments, she acknowledged that the chef was indeed different and encouraged us to leave a review. Just one more note — breakfast had not been very impressive in the past, but this time it was outstanding. Both the quality and the variety of bread, fresh fruit, and hot dishes were excellent. We hope this feedback is received constructively, as we truly wish to see the restaurant return to the quality we once appreciated.

We stayed at Pullman Bunker Bay Resort in January 2026, booked via Agoda. We deliberately paid a higher nightly rate for a Studio Lake View room based on Agoda’s listing, which presented it as equivalent in size and value to the Studio Villa we had stayed in on previous visits. In reality, the Studio Lake View was materially inferior in usable space, layout and amenities. Had this been accurately represented at the point of booking, we would not have paid the higher price. Beyond the room misrepresentation, there were multiple service, hygiene and safety issues throughout our stay. I sustained a minor injury in the room and was unable to contact reception by phone. I had to walk to reception while bleeding to seek assistance. The bed linen became blood-stained and, despite repeated requests, it took over 48 hours and multiple emails before clean linen was provided. Staff interactions were consistently unhelpful, and basic follow-up was poor, including correspondence addressed to the wrong guest name. After dining at the resort restaurant, we were both unwell, which significantly impacted our stay. There were also ongoing safety concerns, including golf carts being driven at speed with little regard for guests, and poor general upkeep across the property. Pool areas were frequently left untidy, with used towels, glasses and food containers remaining for extended periods. Pathways were crumbling, litter was visible, and bags of dirty linen and rubbish were regularly left outside villas until late afternoon or evening. Many issues were only partially addressed after repeated chasing, while others were not addressed at all. Following the stay, we made several attempts to contact the hotel to seek resolution. No post-stay response was provided, despite repeated efforts to engage. It is important to note that the location itself is stunning. Bunker Bay is genuinely beautiful, with extraordinary natural surroundings, and the proximity to Yallingup and Dunsborough is ideal. The setting has the potential to be exceptional. However, while we understand this was a busy school holiday period, this does not excuse the level of service failure, poor hygiene standards, or lack of post-stay engagement at this price point and under the Accor brand. This was a deeply disappointing experience. I would strongly caution future guests to scrutinise room listings carefully and not assume equivalence between room categories based on online descriptions. In our experience, this property does not deliver a 5-star standard.

Het hotel is mooi gelegen aan het strand en de kamers waren prima schoon en ruim qua opzet. Verder vond ik de service niet altijd vriendelijk, aan de receptie een aardig jongen uit Chili maar in het restaurant vond ik de meeste niet service gericht en soms onaardig. Vond het niet een welcoming hotelsfeer. Verder hebben wij best veel voor een kerstlunch betaald en daar had ik iets meer V. verwacht, eten was niet bijzonder, verder de tafels waren niet leuk gedekt met linnen om een kerst sfeer te creeren. Ik ben in veel hotels geweest met kerst ook in warme landen maar daar werd altijd iets V. gemaakt. Voor die prijs echt zonde V. mijn geld. Totaal geen leuk kerst gevoel. Verder is er niets op het strand kan zijn dat het niet mag maar zorg dat je voor je hotel gasten parasol of een gazebo kan lenen zodat je op het stand kan zijn zonder in de volle zon te liggen. Veel australiers hebben hun eigen spullen maar wij kwamen uit europa. Helaas hadden wij veel last V. de vliegen, veel mensen aten bij het zwembad en lieten hun eten staan en dat werd niet opgehaald door het personeel dus al die vliegen erop. Mag qua service echt een tandje erop, men was niet altijd vriendelijk andere hotels waar wij verbleven veel aardiger. Ik zou nog een keer verblijven omdat het een mooie relaxte plek is qua ligging maar niet voor de gezellige sfeer en de service

For a five star accommodation it's overpriced or the service level is too low. When checking in it was raining, they didn't offer to bring the bags to the room with there golfcar. There wasn't enough warm water for four short showers, so I paid €330,- a night and had a cold shower. That's insane. When asking about this: 'ow that's so bad'. Nothing more. Also during breakfast, the coffee machine gave too much coffee for the size of the cup. So we had breakfast from paper cups... The painting in the breakfast area all hanging cross cross (not straight in line). Sorry, but this details belong to a five star. This was way too overpriced and was a big Australian disappointment. People parking in place for disabled people, when they don't have the disable card. The hotel just let this be. It's a shame. I would not recommend this place nor would visit it again.

Heerlijk hotel op prachtige plek. Jammer dat het koffietentje op /bij het strand niet open was. Het Zwembad was echt te koud. Had gevraagd om een kamer. dichtbij het hoofdgebouw en dat was niet gereserveerd voor mij.
