Sofitel Foshan Disaster: Luggage Smashed by Doorman, No Room, Manager Lied in Investigation!

At 2:30 AM, I arrived at Sofitel Foshan Louvre International Hotel. I thought a 5-star brand would at least guarantee basic service. What happened instead was a nightmare: 1. Doorman smashed my luggage on the ground My second suitcase weighed 30KG. The doorman pulled it out of the trunk and dropped it hard on the ground with a huge bang. I was shocked and asked immediately if the luggage was okay. He said “It’s fine.” It was dark at the entrance and all my bags were with him, so I trusted his word. 2. No room available despite my reservation I went up to the 11th floor to check in, only to be told: my booking didn’t go through, the hotel was fully booked, and there was no room for me. Their “solution”? They recommended I go to a nearby hotel at 3 AM. Unbelievable. 3. Damage discovered and hotel refused responsibility Since I couldn’t check in, my suitcase stayed at the front desk instead of being taken upstairs. When I reached the other hotel 5 minutes later, under the bright lights I finally saw the truth: one wheel of my suitcase was half broken and almost torn off. I immediately called Sofitel. The replies were beyond ridiculous: • “The doorman wasn’t professionally trained, not a permanent staff member.” → Really? That’s your excuse in 2025? Just blame a temp worker? • “From the CCTV we cannot see the luggage was damaged, maybe it happened during the taxi ride.” → Are you serious? A 5-minute ride with my suitcase lying flat in the trunk, and you expect me to blame the taxi driver? • The next morning I called again to ask for a detailed update. The duty manager told me: ‘Your luggage was taken up to the 11th floor.’ 👉 Fact: my luggage never left the lobby, it sat at the front desk the whole time. This shows the manager didn’t even investigate properly—just made up a story to brush me off.

You deserved a comfortable and enjoyable journey, but due to our significant operational errors, we caused you great inconvenience and disappointment, which completely contradicts the service promise of the Sofitel brand. Regarding the facts you pointed out, after internal verification, we confirm that this was due to a failure in our sales department—after your booking was confirmed, they did not promptly notify the front desk to process it, resulting in unsynchronized system information and leaving us unable to provide you with a room upon your late-night arrival. This was a serious failure in our internal procedures. Regarding the luggage you mentioned, we have verified with our staff that it could still be pushed and pulled normally after the fall, and no abnormalities were detected at the time. However, after receiving your feedback, we actively took steps to provide service recovery. For the management loopholes, service deficiencies, and inadequate communication revealed in this incident, we once again offer our most sincere apologies. We fully understand that no explanation can completely make up for the distress this experience has caused you, but we still hope to have the opportunity to truly rectify our mistakes. We sincerely invite you to stay at our hotel again at your convenience. Please give us a chance to provide you with an experience that meets, and even exceeds, the Sofitel standard, in order to regain your confidence in us. Suddenly air condition stops and the room became so hot The staff don’t t have any engineer to correct it The whole night we were in hot furnace It didn’t get corrected till now So pathetic Suggest don’t go to the hotel anytime

We had such a fabulous experience at this hotel. It took us 2.5 hours to get here from Hong Kong. The hotel is above the Louvre furniture centre, and it’s everything you’d expect a Sofitel to be - elegant decor, excellent service, and delicious food. The best things for us is that it’s not packed with tourists so we could enjoy a tranquil and relaxing stay. We were lucky to have booked a prestige king bed suite at the last minute with breakfast and access to the Club Lounge. The lounge staff Eve and manager Kevin were very friendly and helpful. At the lounge, guests can enjoy complimentary afternoon tea set at 3-5pm and happy hour refreshments at 5:30-7:30pm, plus coffee/tea and snacks all day. We hardly went out of the hotel for we also came to look at furniture for our home. I’d definitely come back again, just to spend a few quiet days and recharge.

Booked rooms with excess to the club lounge for 2 nights. Upon checking in we had to separately ask where the lounge was and were then send to the restaurant. Rooms we massive with a super spacious bathroom with seperate toilet, shower, bathtub and large couch, large sliding doors to the room on one side and dressing area on the other side. Wooden floors, very hygienic. Minibar, kettle and nespresso was hidden in a nice Chinese cabinet. Breakfast was in the restaurant, you could sit on the right, a little away from the buffet area, avoiding the crowd. Western selection was ok with fruits, yoghurt, pastries, eggs etc. Large Chinese selection. Very bad coffee but tea was good. Club lounge provided afternoon tea and happy hour: happy hour food was good and we actually snacked so much, we could forego dinner. Be aware not to cut the bread that is for decoration only when the bread on the wooden board is finished. We did and so did other people :-) One comment is that they changed our wifi access code on day 2 without informing us so when we arrived in the hotel late in the evening, we could not log in. Upon checking out, they also changed the name on the reservation without informing me. So we had to get them to change it all back again. Very odd as I made the reservation from the Accor app which has all the details including my membership status and to change it then randomly to my partner's name, very clumsy. After we checked out in the morning and left our luggage before leaving for HK in the evening, we could not get wifi access either anymore. Would have expected to keep the access for guests who checked out a few more hours. There was also no option to get wifi anymore without using a Chinese phone number There is a bar on the rooftop with some live music. You can smoke inside so really horrific for your lungs and clothes. Drinks are nice and staff is friendly. We could only sit in one area as for the other area, it was reserved for people spending 1500CNY on a bottle of liquor.....not that there was anyone. Bar was filled with very young girls zipping from one drink and taking millions of pictures of each other in revealing outfits, quite interesting to see
