Visiting the Rock is Worth It, but the Hotel is Disappointing

This is an overpriced, hardly average hotel, probably because the entire resort, including all hotels and restaurants, are the only game in the Uluru area. Our room had a terrific view of Uluru. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean, but there were many nicks and gouges in the trim around the doors and the grout in the bath/shower needs cleaning or replacing. The room generally needs some serious maintenance and upgrading. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner in two of the restaurants, and the service and food was just fine. The visit to Uluru was fantastic, and that would be the only reason to go to this hotel.

I was very wary of all the hotels in Yulara given the monopoly that operates the entire town, particularly given so many negative reviews of the supposedly best options on offer. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by our room at Desert Gardens and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Now there were small problems like the fact that all our glasses were dirty (e.g. lip marks) and the bottle of soap in the shower was empty, but those were fairly easily remedied though it did require making the requests a couple of times. The rest of the room was quite lovely--spacious, clean (except for those glasses), quiet, good A/C, comfy beds, and even a view of Uluru from our balcony even though we didn't make any special reservations! We also made use of the free self-serve laundry facilities, which was really helpful given all the red dust. Yulara/Uluru/Katja Tjuta is a pricey place to visit but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Desert Gardens again if we're lucky enough to return to the area.

Extremely expensive but no other options. Room was clean & spacious, large but dated bathroom. Quite a step up into bath into shower! Parking quite a way from room. Nice pool area. Handy to restaurants. Friendly staff. Be prepared for lots of walking!

First off let's be clear - if you are visiting Uluru then absolutely stay at Ayers Rock Resort and the Desert Gardens Hotel is a great choice within that. Location is unbeatable with unrivalled access to Uluru & Kata Tjuta via tours or Hop on Hop off buses. The hotel was clean & the major positive was having access to the restaurants of all hotels in the resort. Food quality was good at Mangata restaurant and excellent at Ilkari for a treat (quite expensive). The overall room was probably slightly below the standard you would expect for the price point. Prices are also inflated across the resort reflecting the captive market. I'd definitely stay here but budget these days to be more expensive than average.

We stayed as a family of three and found the room spacious enough for all of us, which made our stay comfortable. While the bathroom felt a bit dated and the air conditioner was on the louder side at night, these were minor inconveniences given the peaceful, remote location of the hotel. What really stood out was the staff—they were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with any questions or local tips. We’d definitely recommend including breakfast with your stay; there was a great variety and plenty to choose from, which made mornings easy and enjoyable.
