AccorAllful, Novotel Makassar, It Failed.

From the other reviews, obviously standards are different in this part of the world. 3 days I will never get back. I am not sure what it is about Accor brands and me, but they just cannot get it right. The Novotel Makassar was my abode for 3 nights. I was recommended by a colleague, despite my better judgement booking into an Accor Allful Hotel. I was even convinced to pay for the “Executive” Room at double the price of a Standard Room. Clearly they are having a laugh. The Room was on the 12th floor, The “Executive” Floor. and yes, I had access to the “Executive” Lounge. I am mystified as to what benefits it offered. One of the staff told me the “Executive Room” was no different to any other room. The “King” bed was 2 single beds pushed together, which does my head in. The Safety Box did not work for the whole time, until finally on the last day they came and replaced the whole Safety Box. That’s right folks, they just picked up the unbolted box that did not work, and they replaced it with another unbolted box. So much for security. The wi-fi was a step back in time. It was such low-speed it would not even allow a lo-res You Tube video to download and play. On the last day, I had their IT guy come to have a look for me and he connected me to the Hotels management wi-fi network and it went well for an hour or so. Then crash. The wi-fi was useless in the Dining Room, it was useless in the “Executive” Lounge and it was useless in the “Executive” Room. The IT chap told me there was only 1 access points on the “Executive” Floor for 35 rooms. Accor Allful, you failed. it’s an “Executive” Floor folks, most likely the majority of Guests are Business people and they need good, fast, reliable wi-fi. It failed. Back to the so called “Executive” Lounge. It is the only Executive Lounge I know of in the world where it’s coffee or tea only. That’s it. Nothing else. They provided some hot food in the evening. Not sure why the bothered. If one wanted a cold drink, pay. A soft-drink. Pay extra, in the “Executive” Lounge for goodness sake. No happy hour and certainly no alcohol. This is an alcohol free city, like Saudia Arabia, except we aren’t told before we get there. The A-C worked very well, thank goodness for that. The bathroom was an OK size for 1 person with water that dribbles. No pressure here folks. I never received Housekeeping for the 3 days I was in. I baled up a cart in the corridor and asked for more room coffee. As for the breakfast, the restaurant was filthy, the food had mostly run-out when I went after 09.00. Nothing was replenished. I found some fresh tomato. And as I was about to eat, I noticed what I thought was mould. Yep, it was. I gave it to the waiter. He did nothing. Just looked at me with a blank, vacant stare and did nothing. Oh, except, look at his phone. Whilst the food buffet remained un-replenished, the majority of the staff were all staring down at their phones. I have been in 147 countries, and I can honestly say, the most chronic users of mobile phones in the world, from my experiences, are our Indonesian friends. While on duty, while working, walking along the streets, at airline check-in counters, gate attendants at Airports, Grab drivers, car drivers, bus drivers. No one is spared. Even when they are talking with their friends. Every man, woman, child has chronic mobile phone overuse. Back to the Novotel Makassar, an Accor Allful hotel, you failed this Guest on every level. It’s clearly a Hotel that needs new management. It’s poorly run, the staff are lethargic, the hotel is run-down. The little things, like the carpet on the floor on the “Executive” floor, ripped in certain places and patched together in an unsightly manner, the jug in the room with the lid that is broken, the safety box that didn’t work, the 2 single beds pushed together to make a King, the wi-fi speed. The lack of detail points to poor management. I started by saying I don’t get along with the Accor Allful brands. I don’t get them and they don’t get me. And they don’t care that they don’t get me. And for that matter, I don’t care either. Against my better judgement, I stayed at Novotel Makassar because a colleague recommended so, plus I thought I was getting a good rate. Of the 200+ hotels I have stayed in this year alone, and the over 300 nights this year alone, Novotel Makassar goes to the bottom of the Class of 2025. It failed.

the moment we came in, kita disambut dengan ramah.. lobby nya luas dan looks faboulus.. smooth check in, kami hanya tidak dapat pnjelasan untuk akses executive lounge. but overall very good. kamar bersih, luas.. we enjoy the afternoon tea at the executive lounge, dan mba reka was very helpfull.. she explain everything. ohh tidak lupa dengan playground nya, anak saya sangat happy berada disini. definitely will coming back here.

What an amazing experience with Novotel Makassar Grand Shayla for my family trip during my vacation this time, as usual no complaint at all regarding the facilities and room itself.. thanks for HK staff who make up our room, as we arrived we got some welcome drink and complimentary Dessert in the room. Would love to mention some staff who have an outstanding services, Ms. Reka and Yana from Front Office, Mr. Adhy & Bagas as Duty Mgr, Ms. Apryn as HK Mgr, Ms. Vina as Sales Mgr, Chef Mr. Subhan, Ms. Aika and the team from F&B for the great dinner. Last but not least for those who didn’t mention here, kindly accept our huge thanks! You guys deserved it! Will definitely back here next time!
