Rooms are clean and modern. Staff is all very friendly, quick and helpful. Check-in however takes ages which is due to government regulations, hotel staff still makes the best out of it. Breakfast is okay-ish. Very annoying is that foreigners are fully shadowed and followed by secret police people. After you check in they show up with a car in front of the main entrance. Once you leave they'll follow you wherever you go. No matter you take a cab or a private car or you walk: Several men will follow you whenever you leave the Hotel entrance. I understand the hotel cannot do anything against it.

I stayed at GM for a total of 3 nights during my trip to Xinjiang in April through two separate bookings. Overall, the service was outstanding as the staff (from receptionist to room service to restaurant waiters/waitress) was very friendly and responsive. Our room was also upgraded and free afternoon tea and breakfast were offered with my membership. If there was any areas for future improvements: - our room was among tour groups and unfortunately the groups were very loud (no surprise) and the wall was not super sound proof. It would be helpful if the receptionists (when allocating rooms) are mindful of tour group bookings and individual travellers and seperate them out; - Breakfast starts at 7am however there is no packed option available for travellers checking out prior to 7am. This is somewhat standard for five star hotels so I was surprised to find this is not available at this GM. - Bakery provided at afternoon tea is not impressive: the cakes do not look fresh and the cream looks artificial.

The location is OK, hotel isn't modern but clean. The campaign between Fliggy and Accor is really a frustration as the front desk could not tell I'm qualified for the campaign. Breakfast is OK. However the service of the staff is quite excellent. Almost everyone here is warm and helpful, which is not common in this area. Highly recommend if you visit here with a middle budget.

Room is clean and efficient. But replenishment of towels and shampoos could be more timely. Bath setup could use some redesign. Shower experience could be better. Pretty much not impressed by the shower. Good service from the front desk and the breakfast staff. Free parking as well.

Well below expected experience of a Mercure Hotel

This property and it’s operation come no where close to this couple’s expectations of a Mercure property. The hotel and furnishings show much too much wear and grime and the property itself is inconveniently located. Having lived in China and traveled extensively in China, this was not my first trip to Urumqi, I know what to expect of 4 and 5 star accommodations in China and this property barely achieves 3 stars. At 4 and 5 star hotels bell service to accommodate guests’ ground travel is expected. None at this Mercure; and due to this hotels situation, far from the street and a demanding long ramp, getting a taxi is virtually impossible at the hotel’s door. This hotel has a huge lobby, with seating and tables for dozens of people, but no food or drink service in the lobby. The breakfast is possibly the worst we’ve ever seen at a 4/5 star hotel in China. The Chinese selections are uninspired and the western selections are pathetic. A French hotel chain without decent baguettes and croissants and not so much as a slice of cheese? And the coffee was a single pot on a hot pad. The room, although spacious had a rug that should have been discarded years ago, with filth and stretched waves that were almost a tripping hazard. The bathroom was probably less than 12 meters square, had a shower that guaranteed a wet floor and towels so synthetic to be almost useless as a means to dry oneself. The staff obviously were attentive and helpful, so the problems are not their responsibility. If this Mercure was our only experience with Accord properties it could be understood that we would never again stay at an Accord. In my opinion this hotel should not be a Mercure hotel.

I will make sure we can improve on our service provided, especially at the concierge desk. We are working on upgrading our facilities and with comments like yours we will be able to convince the owner to move the planned renovation forward. Regarding the breakfast quality and our baguette and croissant I will see what can be done. Previously I had many comments on the quality from our main customer base (Chinese and Asian at 95%). So we made changes to the style of the breads, softer and less butter in the croissant. We might have to change that back to meet a European taste. Sorry, my mistake. We have fixed the problem with the shower in the room you stayed in. The towels we are replacing since a few months to 100% cotton, by end of the year this will be all done. Room was spacious and clean with nice view of city. Breakfast was very good with wide range of dishes. Staff at reception very helpful. Bowl with nuts and fruit in room was nice.

After a quick check in and upgrade to a lovely room, the water pressure was underwhelming and the room did not cool down to comfortable temps. The buffet was great for breakfast but the restaurant was just okay for dinner.

Has potential, but inconsistent

In general the hotel is very nice - beautiful rooms and common areas. Unfortunately we experienced some serious service slip-ups. When we arrived a Chinese tour group was just checking in which seems to have caused tremendous stress to the front desk staff. We approached a team member who was unoccupied but who told us she was just in charge of taking photos and couldn't check us in. A little wait later we were checked in by another colleague who bore the stress on his face and behaved rather rudely. The first impression of the property could hardly have been worse. I went down a while later to buy some drinks from the reception. Mr Lou Qiang (who I assume was the manager on duty) was just on the way out to assist another guest but delegated my request to his colleagues - who absolutely ignored me and spent great effort to avoid eye contact for a good 15 minutes until Mr Lou returned and asked where my beer was (my response: 'I'm still waiting...') I suppose the staff were shy to speak to me as a waiguoren, but this is clearly unacceptable. Had they bothered, they would have found out that I do speak Chinese. If it weren't for one staff member with the right service attitude I could have stood there all night, for a meager two bottles of beer. I don't want to imagine what happens when a guest has a serious problem and finds themselves being thoroughly ignored. It appears that the staff are rather inexperienced and require some refreshing training on guest service or what we at IHG call "true hospitality" (I would assume Accor has a similar concept in place). While the stay really was okay and later on the effort to improve our experience was visible, the first night was such a disaster that it left us truly disappointed.

Although there are only 3 in house restaurants in the hotel, I still managed to settle my dinner for the entire week of my stay in the hotel. If you are Didi user, make sure you search using "华凌美爵" and look for the" Parking " 停车场 location, else the Didi will wait at the main road instead of picking you up right in front of the hotel entrance. Only improvement needed is perhaps the pillows... Just toooo soft..

Pillows are too flat, pls change or upgrade the pillows. For other room services are excellent, also for the hospitality of the staffs are wonderful. Breakfasts are yummy. Hotel location is really downtown surrounded by shops n restaurants. Very comfortable to go many places by taxi.
