Rooms are clean and modern. Staff is all very friendly, quick and helpful. Check-in however takes ages which is due to government regulations, hotel staff still makes the best out of it. Breakfast is okay-ish. Very annoying is that foreigners are fully shadowed and followed by secret police people. After you check in they show up with a car in front of the main entrance. Once you leave they'll follow you wherever you go. No matter you take a cab or a private car or you walk: Several men will follow you whenever you leave the Hotel entrance. I understand the hotel cannot do anything against it.

I stayed at GM for a total of 3 nights during my trip to Xinjiang in April through two separate bookings. Overall, the service was outstanding as the staff (from receptionist to room service to restaurant waiters/waitress) was very friendly and responsive. Our room was also upgraded and free afternoon tea and breakfast were offered with my membership. If there was any areas for future improvements: - our room was among tour groups and unfortunately the groups were very loud (no surprise) and the wall was not super sound proof. It would be helpful if the receptionists (when allocating rooms) are mindful of tour group bookings and individual travellers and seperate them out; - Breakfast starts at 7am however there is no packed option available for travellers checking out prior to 7am. This is somewhat standard for five star hotels so I was surprised to find this is not available at this GM. - Bakery provided at afternoon tea is not impressive: the cakes do not look fresh and the cream looks artificial.
