Comfortable stay in the heart of Inverness

My wife and I spent two (2) nights, with our tour group, at the Mercure Inverness Hotel and were very pleases with our stay. The room was comfortable and well appointed. What was interesting were the ear plugs provided by the hotel. The location sits near the River Ness which is situated in a congested area of nightclubs and pubs. We stayed mid-week without any issues. My guess is the area gets quiet rowdy and noisy on weekend nights The restaurant is good. The morning continental breakfast was fine. Overall, we enjoyed our time at the hotel,

Excellent location; Needs improvement

The location of Mercure is fantastic as it is right next to the river and right in the heart of Inverness. However, and given its age, it needs some improvements both in the rooms and in the common areas. It's not a new issue, but the Mercure chain must look at this jewel in the crown and produce the improvements that the hotel needs.

Convenient and quiet

Good location a short walk from the station and overlooking the river. Only a stopover on the way further north, after arriving on a late train. Quiet comfortable room on the river side of the hotel. Good breakfast with varied choice. Good internet

Parking fine

Everything was fine until they charged us a £90 parking violation. We followed the instruction of the hotel to register our license plate at the front desk and they told us they would charge the parking fee of £10/night (if i remember correctly) to the card. Great, sound good! They lied. Make sure you get a receipt of some kind for your parking so you can dispute later.

Way too Noisy

The room itself was okay. However, our room faced the street and had little soundproofing. The party in the nightclubs below raged on until 2:00 AM on weeknights and 5:00 AM on Saturday. There was a constant roar of loud music and yelling; a mix of revelry and angry outbursts. Sleep was next to impossible until the nightclubs closed. I suspect that if we had been on the other side of the hotel which faced the river, our experience would have been much different. We'll never know because the hotel management told us it was unable to move us to one of the river facing rooms. They did supply earplugs. Unless you plan on partying until the wee hours of the morning, you will want to seek other accommodations.
