Cramped, basic and understaffed

How this place has 4 stars I have no idea. The only pros are that the room was clean, and all the staff were super warm and friendly. But it was so understaffed, it took 20 mins of queuing to check in. No one to help me with bags as a heavily pregnant solo traveler. In general it feels like a budget hotel, the compact double is a tiny depressing room, very very basic, with weird lighting and noisy from both the street and the corridor. Bathroom drains smelled bad! Breakfast was sad and unappealing, not worth the add on price. I stared at the scrambled egg for a good while trying to work out what it was. Parking was expensive and I was lucky to get a space. So many nicer and similarly priced places in this city.

I been cheated, nor the room is the same nor the view. Even there is no duty manager at 7 pm. We have been waiting for 1.5 hours and still nothing seems to be sorted. Even the receptionist is a trainee and no senior staff also an available. Horrible experience. Still sitting in the reception without any reply. Please don’t stay at Mercure Inverness.

Hotel Not Up To Standards

The hotel is very dated, would improve with a remodel and rooms are small. In addition, there are few electrical plugs near the bed and no night tables. The bathroom could also use an update and after flushing the toilet continued to run for about ten minutes. When I informed the front desk person they said they would send up a maintenance man. We waited but never saw anyone. The best thing about this hotel is the number of good restaurants within a ten minute walk.

Mercure disappointment

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights over a weekend at the beginning of our NC500 trip. The staff, when they appeared, we're very friendly and smiley. Unfortunately we were kept waiting on arrival, which was not ideal after a 6 hour drive; there was a gentleman walking around talking loudly on his mobile and very clearly associated with hotel (he was in and out of room marked Private so bit of a clue) but he didn't put his call on hold or even acknowledge our presence by mouthing apologies. The receptionist was very jolly and welcoming when she did appear and duly apologised for delay. Our room was a Privilege room and on first glance was great. Lovely big bed, spotless bathroom, big shower, small sofa. However - the decor, whilst immaculate was dark and the lighting was awful. 2 bedside lamps and 2 lamps on desk/table - none of which provided good lighting. Also only 1 double socket by desk which had to serve kettle, hairdryer, phone and tablet chargers, tongs etc. no sockets by bed. The bathroom could only have been designed by a 6 foot 6 inch tall man! The (heated) mirror took ages to heat and was pretty useless - it only cleared a central rectangle and at 5 foot 3 in tall I could just about see the top of my hair!! I also couldn't reach the towel rail very well as it was wall mounted above the toilet. There was also a lack of shelf space. The biggest gripe about the room (314) has to be the noise from the street. Whilst accepting it is a city centre hotel, it was very loud with car turbo revving, loud music from the bar over the road and revellers hanging about outside the bar. This didn't abate until 3.30am (avoid this hotel on a Saturday night!). The Sunday night was a little better. We didn't eat our evening meal here (the menu didn't look great) but breakfast was okay apart from the frozen strawberries 😔. Breakfast staff less than attentive and in fact the staff on duty spent the whole time we were in restaurant talking and laughing with chef - don't think she even noticed we had arrived. Only 1 lift working. Car park £15 a day 😦 Sorry Mercure but I expected better.

Dark Drab and miserable

Selected this hotel due great location and amenities nearby in great vibrant city. Unfortunately hotel is dark, drab and miserable with small horrible rooms with double bed wedged in against wall, good shower but wash basin not big enough to wash hands and overflows when water on too long. Even a Task trying to fill kettle for a coffee, hotel stated parking on site but was charged £15/ night for this privilege as not included in room price. Why they get away with charging top end price for basic accommodation is beyond me. Never again.
