Fantastic hotel great decor in the lobby. Great location near the lanes and the Brighton Centre. Room was good comfortable with lovely with great sea views which was a treat. Staff were very helpful and polite. Thankyou for making our stay welcomed.

The room was not very clean, (lots of marks on the carpet and wall), the bed was very uncomfortable (both the mattress and pillows), the toilet was ridiculously loud when flushed (to the point it woke my partner up) and the window got stuck and required two of us to shut it when we opened it to see the view (we shouldn’t have bothered). The hotel were emailing me up until the day offering me the opportunity to upgrade for an additional fee so there were obviously other rooms. I questioned if it was possible to have a double room (I had accidentally booked a twin) but was not offered this. The lady at check in was lovely, but we had to head out promptly shortly after as we had a gig booked. When we returned at just after 11, there was no one on reception to raise any of these issues too. The next morning at check out, I raised that the stay hadn’t been great and was offered free breakfast, but I had already paid for this and had it. I wasn’t offered to be reimbursed which would have been a nice gesture given they had just offered me a free breakfast. Overall, it was disappointing and I would not return

Had the pleasure of an overnight stay for work , we are currently in the process of working on replacing ALL the flooring ( which people negatively review ) just to explain , being a Seaside establishment customers do tend to walk in and with that bring salt water , road dirt and in general the area has a lot of foot traffic , that said " hopefully " that explains the negatives . Very silent room "120 " Breakfast was top form , bar staff and reception ACE , Kelly the GM brilliant and obviously cares about the establishment .

Having previously been Accor Gold I have stayed in many Mercure properties throughout Europe. This is by far the worst Hotel I have stayed in! The hotel is in a fantastic sea front position and the staff are all very friendly and welcoming (hence the 2 rating) but that is where the positives end. All of the public areas are looking so tired and scruffy, most of the carpets are stained and grubby. I had booked a single room and on arrival I was told I'd been upgraded to a double. I made the mistake of dropping my case inside the room and going straight out before inspecting the room. On returning very late that evening I had the first chance to inspect the room (#300). On the plus side the bed and linen were clean, the room was small and the furnishings very dated and well worn. On opening the bedroom frosted glass window my view was of a scruffy external wall and stairwell with hardly any natural light. The bathroom should have come with a health warning, the laminate floor had gaps everywhere which were filled with grime, the bath panel was battered and all the screw heads were exposed, around the shower screen there was mould and grime. The shower head was like a museum piece and was in serious need of a descaling. The snagging list for the bathroom alone would have run to several pages (I have pictures which I will add later). I can honestly say that this room was not fit for purpose and I would invite the Mercure management to tell me if they are proud to be putting their brand to it. On checking out I discussed with the reception supervisor who was apologetic and assured me that they have lovely rooms, I would like to think that this room is the only bad one in the hotel but I'm not convinced. I regret not going to reception to ask to be moved the night before. Unfortunately my bad experience did not finish with the room, I had ordered the breakfast which was awful. All of the fried ingredients were swimming in grease, the fruit option consisted only of cubes of melon in preserve jars which was weird and to top it all the machine coffee was awful. The breakfast room and furnishing are very dated and scruffy. Overall the hotel needs some serious money spent on a major update.

Although the service was brilliant, there are some small things that I feel need changing to make a big difference. Pillows - lumpy, cheap nasty pillows that ruined our nights sleep. Coffee - No option of a filter coffee, I couldn't even purchase one at the bar. Instead, a machine of cheap bitter, see-through coffee that wasn't even drinkable. Breakfast - Despite being the first downstairs, it was luke warm. It seemed that it had been left on the hot plate for a long time. Good quality, just cold. The reception staff were amazing and couldn't do enough. Unfortunately we won't be staying again as it wasn't a comfortable nights sleep.
