Incredible staff made our stay special

The location of this hotel is great -- walking distance to all the main attractions and right on top of the metro station. Breakfast was limited but tasty. It can be quite busy, though, and on one of the days, the bread baskets and cheeses were all empty and we had to wait for more to be prepared. What really made our stay special, though, was the kind staff. During checkin, we were upgraded to a room with a view of the port and WOW. If you are able to get a room overlooking the water, you should because it is incredible.

double charging the 19% Chilean VAT; avoid this hotel at all costs

If I can give this hotel zero star, I will because this hotel turned back on their full refund promise and double charged me the 19% Chilean VAT. Please avoid this hotel at all costs. I booked my stay at this hotel using my points via Chase travel portal (check in: 12/31/2024; check out: 1/1/2025), which already covers the hotel room rate plus the tax (please see the attached image). However, my credit card is still charged for the full amount (room rate + tax). On my check-out date, the hotel front desk staff admitted that it is a mistake, promised a full refund (including tax) to my credit card, and issued the document (please see the attached image) to me as proof that they will issue the full refund (including tax). However, as of 1/9/2025, I still have not received the full refund including the tax yet, which means that ibis Valparaiso charged me TWICE for the 19% Chilean VAT (one from the points via Chase travel portal; the other one on my credit card), even after their promise of full refund and the proof documents they issued to me at my hand. Such practice from this hotel is essentially stealing the money from their customers, which is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. I suggest that everyone should avoid booking this hotel at all costs in the future such that ibis Valparaiso won't have the chance to steal the customers' money in the future.

good location with a partial view to harbor and well sorted breakfast buffet, close to Plaza Sotomayor and Mercador within walking distance, offers an island of comfort within an old city (now unfortunately in decline) spread across many hills.

Wonderful stay at New Year

We stayed here for two nights over New Year’s Eve. Would highly recommend it as a great base to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks. The staff could not do enough and were very welcoming and accommodating. We had a fantastic view from the hotel rooftop for the fabulous fireworks. The food was also excellent and the little touches like a gift in your room were very welcomed. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Budget, Bland, and Boring

IBIS Valparaiso is a budget-friendly, modern hotel offering a functional and comfortable experience. Located near the city's vibrant port and known for its colorful neighborhoods and bohemian atmosphere, the hotel serves as a convenient base for exploring Valparaiso. With minimalist decor and a no-frills approach, the hotel appeals to budget-conscious travelers looking for practical amenities without luxury. While it’s ideal for shorter stays and those on a tighter budget, some guests feel it lacks a bit of warmth in its ambiance. LOCATION: One of the greatest assets of this budget hotel is its prime location. Situated right in front of the scenic port, it provides a gateway to some of Valparaiso's most famous attractions, including the UNESCO-listed historic quarter and iconic hillside neighborhoods. The hotel is also close to Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, areas brimming with street art, cafes, and galleries. Additionally, public transportation is easily accessible, making it simple to reach the bus station, nearby beaches, and even Santiago. However, the bustling nature of the port area may mean some noise, especially at night. DINE + DRINK: The hotel offers an onsite restaurant and bar, which, though convenient, is nothing much to write about. The breakfast buffet is quite boring with the usual cliched spread of fresh fruits, pastries, and Chilean essentials. And it was SO CROWDED in the morning, there was barely any place to even sit - let alone manage to grab something to eat! The hotel restaurant provides a decent menu for lunch and dinner, but the food is relatively basic and limited, lacking local flair. Guests looking for more variety or authentic Chilean flavors are encouraged to explore nearby restaurants and cafes. ROOM: We stayed in Room 502, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Rooms at the IBIS Valparaiso are clean, modern, and functional, following the brand's signature style with minimalistic decor and straightforward amenities.VIEW: This was undoubtedly the highlight of the stay - though the room window was small the views were larger than life and colorful! Spectacular vistas of the port and the ships floating around on the waterfront; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM: Decent sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Ok quality toiletries FACILITIES: No Gym or Pool on site which is another big downside. SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel at home and well taken care of. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is good! Medium-sized Smart TV dishing out a wide variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, and entertainment - predominantly in SPANISH only
