So pleased I booked this hotel. Easy train ride from airport, hotel right out side Alsancak station. (Staff at station are helpful - you need to buy a “top up” travelcard) Great quality breakfast. Good wifi. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Its clean. Plenty of restaurant (budget + high end options) in the local area. Walking distance to local attractions. Close to sea front - No beach in Izmir ! If you are doing day trips to Cesme, Efesus or Pamukkale, local tour operators will pick you up/drop you off from here.

We stayed in this hotel in May for a total of fourteen days book-ending trips around Turkey. This is a modern hotel with 140 rooms in an eight storey block. Guests with mobility difficulties would not experience any problems except for the bathrooms but it does have two accessible rooms. It is well situated, close to a railway station, the IZBAN (light rail), the tram and the waterfront. It is a taxi ride from the bus station and that is 30 minutes in light traffic. The IZBAN serves the airport but is no faster than a taxi taking 45 minutes – it is, of course, cheaper than a taxi! There is a taxi rank immediately outside. The hotel is in a vibrant area with very many restaurants and bars and the city centre is a 15 minute stroll away. This hotel is a standard ibis, an early generation, but clean, quiet in the rooms and economically priced. It has a small public seating area but this is next to reception and is therefore heavily trafficked. It has a breakfast room off reception which later in the day serves as a bar and restaurant. It has a separate, small coffee shop. What it does it does well and the staff are helpful, engaging and very professional – most have good English. Housekeeping was excellent. It appears to cater mainly to business people and overnighters visiting the area. We did not encounter any tour groups and not many other foreign tourists. Breakfast is adequate but thin for vegetarians – we ate well but not a varied diet. Quality is, however, excellent and the buffet is regularly supervised. We also ate dinner in the restaurant, again limited for vegetarians but of good quality and value. We did not use the wifi. Our room was at the front of the hotel. We had a street view whilst other rooms have no views of any worth. Despite being on the main traffic route there was only some noise. This hotel is to be thoroughly recommended.

Felt extremely uncomfortable. Staff and security guards literally follow your every move. They are rude and unfriendly. Metal detectors are installed at the gate, front desk people come out as soon as you enter the building. They try to get you for anything extra. If you have a visitor they can not come to your room. They even ask you to pay for a visitor. I would not recommend. Had to checkout after one night and find a better hotel cheaper. No wonder why they do not even require credit card at booking.com to book this hotel. because they want you to go in there and once you are there you are a captive. Anything you complain, they ask you to deal with booking.com. They are not responsible for anything. and they do not bother to accommodate you. Because they already have their payment. Front desk personal coupled with intimidating security personal surrounds you when you are talking to them, feels like they are ready to provoke and jump on you. Front door metal detector and hiding front desk personal until you come to the front desk and call them is kind a spooky. They will try to charge you extra when they find a slightest way to getaway with it. Can you imagine being charged for a visitor? Nowhere in the world a hotel would try to charge you for a visitor who is not staying with you and just visiting. Talked to Ibis headquarter and was told that they do not have any policy or regulation where any of the franchise hotels would try to charge you for a visitor. Sending the details to Ibis headquarter as requested. Hope they will address the issue.

In my last review I mentioned some bad aspects that would prevent me from visiting again real soon, and it is a fact that I avoided that hotel for some time. But I was hoping that by the time I visited Izmir again, at least the elevators would be fixed. I made the mistake to check in late at night, as I was flying from Istanbul. As I was approaching the hotel I saw some lovely stray dogs lying here and there, and I went inside to take my room. The first noise that I heard was the beep from the elevators (which they were fixed naturally). Everytime that it was called, or came down a beep was heard, and it happened almost every minute. Of course I wasn't going to stay at the lobby, I was just wondering how the staff could bear this. The room was ok, I know that ibis hotel rooms are small with even smaller bathrooms, but I don't complain as long as they fulfill their promises. Imagine my surprise when I saw that there was no upper sheet on my double bed – I had forgotten that the same thing had happened during my first visit there. So, I went to the lobby and asked for one, but unfortunately communication was very difficult as the receptionist spoke very poor english. Thank God I speak turkish and at least she understood what I wanted. Because of the time being late, the only person who would assist my request was the security guard. So, some time later he knocked on my door handing me a quilt cover!!! I didn't want to be a nuissance, so I kept it and thanked him. I had a bath and prepared to sleep when I heard loud barking from the streets – it was the lovely strays I had encountered a while ago. I turned on the air condition because it was very hot, the room was also very hot, hoping that it would cover the noise. Unfortunately end of October they thought it was winter and the cooling option of the air condition was not available; it could only blow hot air. Again I went to the lobby, mentioned the joint problem, heat and noise, which they also heard and asked for a another room at the back. Sadly enough, there were some lovely strays at the back of the hotel as well, so I returned to my first room and tried to find a way out, but there was not such a way. The loudspeaker from a nearby mosque, that was hanging above the train station made things worse at around 4 o clock in the morning, so I got up in the middle of the night and went down to use the internet to find another hotel. Well..... these people are unbelievable. They had blocked booking.com and there was no way for me to stay somewhere else in Izmir, so I decided to leave altogether. I didn't mind losing the money I paid them, or two airline tickets that I had to buy again, as long as I could get rid of that noise. And I did. I booked another flight and got away from that nightmare. This has nothing to do with being the end of October. It is their policy, it is standard procedure not to let customers use the cooling system of the air condition unless probably during the three months of summer. Not only I will not step in any of their Ibis hotels, but I will be very carefull when visiting other accord hotels. If their goal is to make money, they could install a/c units and charge for them. We would pay a sum additional to the hotel price but we wouldn't boil. They do that, I'll think about it.

出張のため利用させていただきましたが、ホテルに関しては一切不満は無く、スタッフの方もフレンドリーで快適な滞在でした。ただし、今回の宿泊予約は旅行会社を通して予約しましたが、予定変更の際にダブルブッキングが発生し、1日分宿泊の二重請求が発生しました。当方側の旅行会社との連携の問題もありますが、受付で予約状況を確認した上で予定変更にかかる予約をしたにも関わらず「システムの問題で返金できない」はいかがなものかと思います。宿泊者が実際に使用していないサービスを請求するのはホテルの評判を落とすだけのため、システムの問題でキャンセルができないのであれば別の方法で返金対応を行うなど、改善されることを希望します。特に外国人宿泊者はこのような点に懸念を抱くことが多いので、一度このような二重請求を経験すると、次回はそのホテルを利用することはなくなります。
