Basic and ok for a short stay

Hotel was probably grand in the past but is a bit run down now and only adequate for a short stay. Found it a bit soulless, limited staff in the bar, small pool restaurant. Buffet breakfast was good. Accessibility to reception is difficult with heavy cases or for those with limited mobility due to the gold flight of steps. Room was ok, a bit worn and no view other than the railway. Someone else staying there had bed bugs, but ours was ok. Note: hotel is located on the edge of Olbia and is a long walk to the centre with restaurants etc - at main road junction turn right to town, walk through the run down district and cross the rail level crossing (be careful here as no footpaths) to reach the centre and harbour which is all as you’d expect for Sardinia. Again not great for anyone who isn’t fit/ mobile.

We had a pleasant stay at the Mercure, which had everything we needed. It is very conveniently situated close to the railway station, local and extra-urban bus stops. The room was a good size, spotlessly clean, with large twin beds, good lighting, a small fridge and a safe. Although the room description suggested there should have been tea and coffee making facilities, which there were not, we did not miss these due to the hot temperatures. Aircon was a great relief. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. There was one slight mishap when a dinner table booking made at the front desk did not seem to have made it into the system, but the restaurant staff just made up another table immediately with no quibble, We enjoyed the pool area - the pool was very clean, and a super cool temperature to counteract the high temperatures. Nice to eat out here in evening too. We enjoyed our stay, and would return.

We had a pleasant 4 night stay here. We arrived and were able to check in and receive our room key straight away. Our room was on the 3rd floor, room was a nice size and clean. The room did look a bit tired and could do with a re-furb, especially the bathroom as this looked in need of TLC in areas. We slept well and our room had all adequate facilities; Tea/Coffee/Safe/Fridge/TV/WiFi etc. Within our booking we had breakfast included, this ran until 10am every day but they were in no rush to clear when it ran past 10am, the breakfast itself is basic and not really for us but it was fine for a morning coffee. They had an ok selection but all very basic and samey. We also had dinner outside for one of the evenings, which we pre-booked and found the experience really lovely. Service and food were great and made a nice change to the breakfast style setting. We only managed to sit around the pool on our last day as we were quite busy during our trip, the pool bar made great cocktails and we were able to add all charges to the room which was handy and saved us having to carry cash / cards. The pool itself was very quiet and relaxed during our stay, this may have been due to the time we travelled (end of season) but there was plenty of beds and space, no bed hogging or mad rush to get one in the morning. We were keen to try the Spa, when checking in we were informed we got free gym & spa use but when we tried to enter we were told it was a 25 euro charge per person, which was a shame and we didn't end up using this service. During our stay, we had some really awful weather and areas of the hotel flooded, mainly the restaurant. Our windows in our room blew open during the storm and half flooded our room, we had to request fresh bedding and towels and these were brought to use in a good timing, which we weren't expecting. A side note for Olbia as a general place, we found there no a great deal to do and planned things out of the area as there is only so many times you can walk into the centre. Cabs are VERY expensive in the area (not sure why) but we are talking over £30 for a 6 minute Uber from the airport. If you do wish to travel, i'd really recommend buying a car. We tried the hotel to see if we could get a better price with a local cab but they were actually more expensive than Uber.

Probably a good hotel when it opened but very average now. Signs of wear and tear. Room was ok. Great air con, hot water. Friendly staff. Main problem was hours of spa and gym not being posted correctly, actually incorrectly so very difficult to plan. Olbia is boring. Advise to go to Cagliari instead.

Staff are so unfriendly, the rooms look like they are falling apart and there’s a constant smell in the hotel which doesn’t smell good. Theres an electricity box in the rooms where you have to keep resetting the lights as the plug can trip them constantly. The pool area is so dirty with cigarettes around the pool and on the floor. I would definitely give breakfast a miss with cross contaminated tongs and dirty glasses. Really don’t know how 4 stars was achieved.
