I would highly recommend the Novotel Kolkata. The room was great, clean and quiet, loved the etched glass wall between the main room and bathroom. All staff were approachable and helpful, in reception, concierge, hospitality and drivers. Breakfast buffet was fabulous. This would be my hotel of choice in Kolkata

Went there with extremely high hopes to celebrate my birthday. I want to preface this review by stating that I hope this will be taken as constructive criticism and not dismissed entirely after a cookie-cutter response is posted online. Regrettably, Novotel Kolkata doesn't meet the bare-minimum standards of a 5-star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. You notice it right off the bat: no one helped us carry our luggage at the entrance and the reception was so overcrowded due to a wedding ceremony that guests were being ignored. After some waiting, check-in was smooth enough, but the receptionist failed to tell me that in the absence of keeping a holdover amount, every service needs to paid for immediately after availing it. Now, I've never encountered such archaic rules in any other 5-star property, but sure, I would've respected it if I was informed in advance. So when someone came to our room 20 minutes after I received in-room dining to demand an immediate payment, I felt taken aback. After pointing this unprofessionalism out, I was sent a birthday cake to assuage my feelings. While I appreciate the gesture, I was promised a complimentary cake on email prior to my arrival, but was only given one after I called them out on their behavior. I wish I had anything positive to say about the room. The one bedroom apartment we stayed in was dirty and shabby. Basic amenities were missing, and a lot of things listed on their online room description, such as bathrobes or espresso machine, were missing. It genuinely didn't justify the price point, as the toiletries provided were also sub-par. Next, the pool and the spa were off limits because of a private wedding ceremony. How they can deprive guests of the hotel's only selling points to cater to private parties is beyond me. Ghoulish behavior. Food at The Square for buffet dinner was bland and devoid of taste. The wait staff were polite and courteous enough, but the food in itself was a huge disappointment. If you're tired reading this, imagine how tired I am writing this. I just wanted to have a fun birthday with my parents. Suffice to say, I didn't. Breakfast buffet was decent, and wait staff, once again, were polite and proactive. But room service staff, along with general hotel staff don't even bother smiling at you and act like they're doing you a favor. Absolutely shameful. This shouldn't have happened, because there is zero justification for the disappointing experience I had. I expect some amount of empathetic hospitality when I'm spending hard-earned money on a birthday trip at a 5-star property. This wasn't worth it. I'm never staying at a Novotel property again.

I had an amazing experience staying at Novotel Hotel Kolkata. The atmosphere of the hotel is excellent—warm, comfortable, and very welcoming. The staff are incredibly helpful and always ready to assist with a smile. I would especially like to highlight Dilip from the concierge team, who went far above and beyond anything I expected. He helped me with a special favour that I honestly thought was impossible. Not only did he make it happen, but he even did it during his resting period—this shows his level of dedication, kindness, and professionalism. Dilip is truly the best at concierge service. His cooperation and willingness to help made a huge difference in my stay and left a lasting positive impression. Novotel is lucky to have someone like him on their team. Overall, a fantastic hotel with an amazing staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended—especially thanks to Dilip! 🙌
