A good city center hotel with a nice traditional feel. Spacious r caption area and bar area with a restaurant to the rear. The stelka beer in the bar was warm so I only had one pint there. Room 012 was fine with a comfy set of twin beds. The shower was excellent power and warmth and the bathroom a fair size.

This is our third visit to this wonderful hotel this year and they continue to raise the bar every time. Lucy, the front of house staff member went that extra mile with a nice welcoming gift for our pup, Lola. The rest of the staff from management (Peter, Simon and John) to the bedroom staff has made this venue our favourite place to stay when we visit Exeter. I can’t recommend this place enough

We had an accessible room as my husband uses a wheelchair, unfortunately there were no twin rooms so i had to sleep on the floor with a number of duvets as a mattress which was ok but may i suggest you use zip & link beds in these rooms so they can be easily changed to singles, my husband has Parkinsons so is a little fidgety in bed. Also it would help if the beds were lower so disabled guests would find it easier to get into bed as in my husbands case. Would be helpful if the bedroom doors could have a catch to keep them open, difficult to push a wheelchair & hold the door open at the same time. I must thank Page for all her help & kindly issuing me a swimming pool pass, this was free to use on the previous occasions we have stayed at the Southgate. Wendy

Wanted to say a big thankyou to Mary for our stay. We had to move hotels due to Sister hotel overbooked. It was a special stay for me and my friend. Thank you also to Paige for being understanding on Reception. Lovely hotel and would recommend staying here.

I stay at the Mercure Southgate at least once a month, and while the hotel itself is always reliable, it’s Page, the head receptionist, who truly stands out. Her warm smile and pretty face are contagious—you instantly feel at home. I stay in high-end hotels regularly for work, so I know what excellent service looks like, and Page delivers it every time with genuine warmth and professionalism. She’s a real asset to the hotel and one of the main reasons I keep coming back. First impressions always count when greeted at the front desk.
