Great Stay, but Let Down by Leisure Facility Charges

Lovely stay at Mercure Exeter—fantastic location - a lovely run to the cathedral and quay. However, I was disappointed to find a £10 fee to use the pool and jacuzzi, something not made clear anywhere in the hotel. I paid, only to discover the jacuzzi was closed for maintenance. When I asked for a refund at the leisure desk, there was no apology and the request was refused. Thankfully, Abi at the main hotel reception was wonderful—apologetic, helpful, and genuinely kind. Although she couldn’t issue a refund due to the leisure centre being run separately, she completely turned the experience around. Thank you, Abi. I’ve since followed up with 3dleisure regarding the charge.

Average hotel, dated bedrooms although bathrooms seem to have been upgraded. Towels are a disgrace like sandpaper! Need renewing. Everything was clean and the bar service was good but probably try somewhere else on next trip.

We booked just for one night, it is so convenient for concerts in the cathedral, we did have some issues, and I made this known to Abi on the front desk. Within minutes she responded so positively and with utter professionalism, as were all the staff. I couldn’t have been happier, and will absolutely make this hotel our “usual” for further concerts. We intend to attend quite a few more. So thank you, to you all, Best wishes, Jackie

I searched online for a health club in Exeter that has a gym, swimming pool, Sauna and Jacuzzi (not many around) - I did find Spa Naturel Fitness (located in the Mercure Hotel). I wanted to try it out, on their website it says you can buy a one day pass for £15. So I emailed them, they emailed straight back and actually offered me a free pass (wow). When I arrived the girl behind the desk was very helpful explaining the facilities and explained about free parking and membership pricing etc. (just register your on the touch screen every two hours). The faculties were just what I was looking for - if we do move to Exeter I will be joining up. Everything is kept nice and clean. The changing rooms look new with free lockers (simply chose a 4x digit code), hot showers, hairdryers etc, drinking water. Although the Gym is small it does have a good selection of machines for a full body workout (including some free weights). The Swimming Pool is a good size and warm (can actually swim in it), the Sauna was hot as was the Jacuzzi. All in all very impressed - thank you... I hope to return!
