My niece & I have just had a Spa afternoon at the Dunkenhalgh & what a let down. We were checked in & asked to fill forms in & then we would be shown around. After waiting 10 minutes, we went to ask where we went as time was ticking on & nobody had come back for us. Our treatment was booked for 2pm & we went in just after 2pm. We were both having a Body Scrub & ws due to last 25 minutes. Both of the rooms were cold. The treatments lasted 18 minutes. We needed showers after the scrub & my nieces shower was cold & the handle was broken when she tried to turn it hotter! We went to the pool & spa area, 2 of the steam & sauna rooms were not working & the pool area was cold. We went in the pool & jacuzzi and they were also cold! The afternoon was a birthday treat from my niece & we were both disappointed! We won't be coming back.

I had to move twice during the 3 night stay, the first was after the first night when the window frame literally shaking in its carapace when the wind picked up at 3am. moved rooms in the morning before I went to site which meant I missed breakfast. This was compensated for by the receptionist. The second room had a major issue with vapours bubbling out of the shower cubicle, this was initially masked by the extractor in the shower pulling the smell out before it could enter the room... but when I opened the door I literally gagged. I have video of the window frame and the gas bubbling from the plug whole... another room move this time with no apology. In each room and on the key wallet there is a WhatsApp Q code, this I posted to and none of requests have even been read. I gave the Hotel an opportunity to make good on the events but I have had radio silence from the WhatsApp account. If anyone wants to see the videos let my know by contacting me on tpowell5000@gmail.com and I will upload to YouTube Oh and the staff in the restaurant need a LOT more training in customer service...

A real shame…

I’ve just got back from a stay at this hotel and i must admit im very disappointed. I paid £300 for a one night spa break with my boyfriend. I phoned the week prior just to double check everything as the package i paid for included a two course meal, a ‘celebration package’ and late checkout. When I rang, the receptionist confirmed the checkout was 1pm and that it ‘was good to know the occasion for the balloons and rose petals’. I thought fab, going to be a great surprise for my boyfriend. We arrived there around 7pm, however when we walked into our room… nothing. The room was also pretty dirty, still hair in the bath etc. I was disappointed but thought oh well, let’s get to dinner. As we were walking there the receptionist stopped me and said i had to pay £16 for a box of chocolates (??) to which i replied i have already paid for it in the package and i could show the email to prove it, took a bit of back and forth but eventually she said fair enough and let us get on. Food was very nice, but service was very poor, extremely slow, missed half our drinks and we witnessed two tables arguing with staff which brought a bit of a dampener. The next morning we used the spa facilities, more basic than i thought but was still nice. When we got back to our room at around 11:30/12 (again baring in mind i had paid for a late check out), we were literally in the middle of showering / getting changed when a receptionist (i think) walked straight into our room asking when we are checking out. At this point i was absolutely shocked, extremely disrespectful !! I explained we would be checking out at 1pm and she just went ‘Ok’ and slammed the door shut. I rang reception immediately after this to explain what had just happened and how unhappy i was, he said he was sorry and that although i had paid for a late checkout the system hadn’t updated properly. At this point we just wanted to leave. Extremely disappointing for how much i spent and i feel like what should have been a perfect spa break turned into nothing but an awful experience. I overheard a table at dinner say ‘you can tell this place isn’t 4/5* because the staff just enjoy arguing’ and i totally agree. Won’t be coming back.

Another lovely Mercure Hotel (the Mercure in Benidorm is superb too!) Room 107 - really large and warm comfy room-( pillows should be softer though!) Breakfasts superb and Dinner first night was excellent. Very impressed with Hotel Pool and Spa too. Best thing at the hotel is the staff- Aziz in the Dining Room and all the waitresses really helpful -especially Tina. I asked for an omelette this morning -and Chef cooked me a lovely ham one - not on the menu so that's service for you. First night I asked if any chance of a cheese board ( not on the menu) and the waitress returned with a superb cheese board with artistic excellence i.e the Chef had carved some apples into the shape of two acorns - really beautifully presented. So all the staff should receive a pat on the back for their friendly demeanour and speedy service- a shame more hotels do not have the same amount of staff and can look after their guests as we were the past two nights. I hope the GM takes time to re-iterate to all staff - service and efficiency is gratefully noted and appreciated by two guests who will definitely return to the Mercure Blackburn. Aziz is a rare breed of someone intent in making his guests happy-wishing him and all the staff a very Happy Xmas and New Year

I live this place I visit alot with friends we love the spa and the staff and the bar food afterwards. But our special place the lovely warm welcoming pool and whirl pool disappointed us this time The pool and surrounding areas were cold. I have a condition that gets worse when it's too cold. Thank heaven for the kitchen preparing us piping hot delicious soup to warm us up. Hoping it's a one off as we will return.
