Extremely Dangerous and Unsafe Stay – Iron Caught Fire in My Hand with My Two Young Children in the Room

We stayed at the Novotel Liverpool as a family of four, with our two young children aged 4 and 7, and what happened during our stay was absolutely terrifying and completely unacceptable. While ironing my clothes in the room, the iron suddenly caught fire in my hand, throwing sparks everywhere and tripping all the electrics in the room. It could so easily have set the room on fire or seriously injured someone. My children were in the room at the time, and I dread to think what could have happened if they had been any closer — the thought still makes me shudder. This was an extremely dangerous and frightening situation that should never, ever occur in any hotel. I reported it straight away to reception, expecting it to be treated as an emergency. Instead, the response was shockingly dismissive. I was told to come back the next morning to fill in an incident report. When I did, they asked me to fill it in myself, even though that’s the hotel’s responsibility. Then I was told a report had supposedly been done already but was locked in a cupboard and couldn’t be accessed. I was given the maintenance manager’s email address so he could send me a copy, but despite emailing both him and the hotel directly, no one has ever replied. The lack of care or follow-up after such a serious safety incident is completely unacceptable. To make things worse, the overall service in the hotel was dreadful. The bar was chaotic and understaffed — I waited over 20 minutes to be served, and when the barman finally started my order, he stopped halfway through to serve someone else at the far end of the bar. In the restaurant, we asked about the wait for food and were told it was about 45 minutes, but the staff member said he’d check. He returned 20 minutes later just to confirm the wait was still 45 minutes! The whole place felt completely disorganised, like something out of Fawlty Towers. Between the severe fire hazard, the total lack of safety procedures, and the indifference of staff, this hotel is not just badly run — it’s dangerous. Families with young children should be especially cautious. What happened to us could have ended in a serious accident or tragedy, and the hotel’s handling of it was beyond disgraceful.

Reception staff helpful and friendly, then it goes down hill, rapidly. Old dusty hair brush covered in someone's hair under bed, not hidden in plain view, used cup under bed and some spare bread under the window,.just in case you are hungry in the night, very poorly cleaned room, marks in carpet, reception dated worn tatty, tried Novotel instead of Premier Inn, but worse, how sad.

Nice and helpful staff, central location, nice «privat» pool and gym, good size on the rooms, great with separate room for toilet. The beds were a little too hard, and the breakfast was simple with little choice and no variation from day to day.

We are Accor Members and chose this hotel based on our membership, we have stayed in other Novotel Hotels before and found this one also if a high standard. It is well located near Lime Street railway station and also Merseyside and Liverpool One. It's also very close to many tourist attractions such as the Cavern Quarter and Chinatown. We experienced an issue when booking, Sergio really helped us and we were fortunate enough to be checked in by him, the staff are friendly in general and helpful and the hotel has an excellent bar and restaurant. The WiFi was excellent and the room had a small fridge and coffee maker. A very pleasant stay.

Hotel is clean, it is near the docks and the city shopping region, near bars, restaurants and pubs - which is good for some and not so much for others. Breakfast is very good. They do not have a parking lot so they offer you a discount to a Q-Park right in front of their building, but their service is a real mess. It is quite expensive, their QR never worked for me, they ended up charging someone else’s stay in my credit card, the hotel staff was not helpful on that. So if you are coming with your car, this is NOT the place.
