I was in room 215, which was facing the main road so I did not get a good night sleep due to traffic noise. I stayed here as part of a group tour and it was my least favourite hotel. I did enjoy the breakfast but the evening meal was mediocre. The only good point was it included wine and water. Wifi was okay and staff polite and professional but not especially friendly. Quite a distance to Ortygia but walkable for anybody fairly fit and healthy.

A nice hotel but not all boxes ticked

The hotel is modern and the rooms spacious and comfortable with courteous staff and a good breakfast with a full range of choice. The hotel description notes that it has a gym, sauna and steam room but the gym is poorly equipped with two non-working treadmills and the sauna/steam rooms could only be used if you paid for a period in the spa area costing a min of £35 a visit, which was a disappointment. The location is about a mile north of the town centre and there is mostly residential around it so it's not central and within a 15-20 minute walk to the centre and a 40 min walk to Ortigia.

The two treadmills in the gym that were out of service during your stay have already been replaced with new machines, so we hope you’ll enjoy a fully equipped gym on your next visit. Regarding the spa area, as it is an additional service not included in the room rate, there is indeed a separate charge for access to the sauna, steam room, and other spa facilities. This allows us to offer a dedicated, relaxing space for those guests who choose to enhance their stay with a wellness experience. As for our location, we are indeed in the heart of the city, viale Teracati is the most central street of the city, though not in the historic center, which is about a mile away, 20 minutes walking (not 40). However, there are many points of interest close by, such as the archaeological park, the archaeological museum, catacombs, the sanctuary, and a vibrant shopping street, all within easy reach. A good hotel with exceptional staff

The Mercure hotel in Syracusa is about a mile from the tourist area of Ortigia, but there is an excellent and cheap bus service to the island From the reception staff to the cleaners and the bar and restaurant staff you will find helpful friendly people who will go above and beyond normal service to help. There is a pool, which was very welcome when the temperature was in the 30s ( For our American friends that's the low 90s) As a hotel, it's everything you want as an experience, thanks to the staff, it's a pleasure

Like other reviewers we selected this hotel for the free parking in a country where finding parking is a constant stressful nightmare. We were greeted kindly and directed to the outdoor parking area without any problem. The rooms are spacious and well designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows. Higher floors have better views. It’s true that it’s not in a picturesque area and the old town (Ortigia) is not particularly close, but you can easily reach it using the hop on hop off bus which has a stop nearby, opposite the archaeological park entrance. Tickets, which are valid for the whole day, are sold at reception, or you can buy them when boarding the bus. There are restaurants near the hotel, and we particularly liked Siculish around the corner. We were very happy with Hotel Mercure Syracusa. Recommended.

Staff extremely friendly and helping with all our requests to help manage the family stay. Breakfast with many options, most of them local, all items were fresh. Location is perfect if you plan to visit places outside of Siracusa, which was our case. For dining at Ortigia we had to park just before the island and then have a short walk, while if you visit during the day is probably to take the public bus around the corner of the hotel (frequency every 20-25min, until 21h00 or 9pm).
