As per the name suggested, the building of Sofitel Legend Peoples Grand Hotel is stunning. But service on the whole failed to make a legend. We, a group of 11 friends, stayed in the Sofitel Legend for 4 nights, from 29 Oct to 2 Nov. Upon our arrival, we were received warmly by their Chief Concierge, who's been very helpful with providing tips for us to go around and taking notice on our comments. Rooms were big and comfortable, with all the standard fixtures of a 5-star luxury hotel. A full buffet breakfast was inclusive and this was the part which we experienced the worst service during our stay at Sofitel Legend. Most of the waiting staff appeared nervous and clueless about their duties. They could not understand English well, and sometimes even communicating in Putonghua was a bit difficult too. Our coffee/tea orders were mixed up on all 4 days of our breakfast. The staff had difficulties in understanding the different forms of coffee, like Americano and Cappuccino; staff couldn't understand why milk was asked to be served on the side with the english breakfast tea; dirty plates piling up on our table but the staff had no intention to clear them away. The egg station was under so much pressure during peak hour that the food orders were all confused and served very very slow. We also attended the complimentary happy hour held at the bar on the executive floor. The choice of drinks was limited, and when we asked for some lemon slices to go with the soda water, we were told that lemon was not available. Nonetheless, we had great companies among our group of friends and we had a relaxing time there. We were also intrigued by the number of non-hotel guests wandering around the hotel with filming crews taking portraits. A rare view indeed for a luxury 5-star hotel.

Great staff. Friendly, helpful. Good English. Special mention to Andy on Reception, Eva on the Concierge Desk and Anna in the restaurant. The very grand-looking (if a bit Soviet in style) hotel is set back from the road and is pretty quiet. Walkable easily to the Eastern entrance to the wall and to the centre of Xian. Our room had all the usual facilities, maybe a bit light on wardrobe space. It was quiet. The furnishings were a bit fancy for our tastes but that’s subjective. The only slight negative is that the ground floor of the hotel was fairly chilly, so choose where you sit in the restaurant, ideally away from the windows! Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, regularly replenished, and an egg station.

Best hotel in xian . Service is good with best price and best service. Breakfast with full of healthy food and fresh juice with good ingredients . Room very clean immaculate. Location is not the best but you can always get didi around

Authentic Italian Restaurant

Great food and service in a very convenient environment. I came to this restaurant multiple times, it was always very good. In my home country, I live with Italian people, so I have high expecations and high standards towards italian food. This place is clearly a top restaurant.

Sweat all night. The thermostat is a non-functional decoration.

The room was very hot. We like to sleep in a cool room. We set the thermostat at 65 F and the room never got cooler than 76F. We stayed two nights and I mentioned the problem to the front desk after sweating through the first night. Nothing was done so the second night was just as bad. We opened the windows the second night, but the cool outside air could not overcome the hot air blowing out of the vents so the only difference was we could hear construction noise all night. It’s a beautiful old hotel, but the HVAC system doesn’t work. I would not stay at this hotel again.
