Perfect getaway made better by the staff

This is the second time we have stayed at the resort, we just had to come back after our visit last year. The Waitui Beach Club is the perfect spot to lounge around and forget about the real world for a while! All the staff make you feel extremely welcome, and nothing was ever too much trouble. From organising a watermelon to be brought from the kitchen just to make a special cocktail for my wife, (thanks Salote!) to Leon and Rachel always making sure we were well hydrated, and full of snacks, poolside was the place to be for us! Our days usually started with a good sleep in (what else are resort holidays for?!), followed by a wander down to the Journal lounge for breakfast, where we were always greeted with a friendly smile and amazing service from Payal. My morning coffee was served almost as soon as we sat down. The Eggs Benedict for me and the Chefs Egg Bhurji for my wife were always out promptly. And ALWAYS amazing! Dinner was usually back at the Beach Club, with enough variety to keep us coming back, along with the fantastic service and constant smiles from Ben, Bai and Amanda. Can't forget the dinner we had a Solis as well, with William looking after us that night. It was always a pleasure coming back to our room at night, with our minibar restocked and a little pack of biscuits for a midnight snack, thanks Ema! Special shout out to Nasau and Galo in the laundry, who made sure our clothes came back promptly and smelling amazing. Finally a special thanks go to the cold towels they hand out at the restaurants. They have perhaps the best smelling scent I have experienced in my life! We can't wait to come back again.

A wonderful escape

Staying here has been a wonderful experience for our family. The Sofitel is a high end luxury resort with newly renovated grounds and rooms. The grounds are immaculately kept with beautiful gardens, and the pool is rather large so that guests can all enjoy it without feeling crowded or like they are in each other’s space. The resort is designed so that the kids and family activities are to one side, and the adults only activities are at the other so that everyone keeps out of each other’s space. The kids club is fantastic, with three air conditioned rooms, a splash park, an outdoor playground and a zip line (be aware that access to the kids club costs $30 Fijian dollars per session, running from 9-12 and 1-4 and does not include food). Our child had a wonderful time there, and they took him out for excursions to the beach and to the pool as well. My favourite activities of the week was the ‘Tiny warrior’ session that is run free each evening where young kids get dressed in traditional Fijian clothing and march around the resort helping to light the torches for the evening. The waterslide was also a big hit with our child. Our family loved participating in the watersports and made use of the access to stand up paddle- boarding, hobby cat and kayaks. Sera and Kitsu at the watersports center were welcoming and friendly, and extremely accommodating to our little 4 year old pirate. The food was excellent. The waitstaff (such as Mere and Vani) were extremely friendly and attentive. I strongly recommend attending the Fijian night run at Bazaar restaurant on Tuesdays that allowed us to sample so many Fijian cuisines and enjoy traditional Fijian songs and dances. Zack was wonderful and taught us about Fijian myths and legends, and the cultural significance of Kava. We also loved the cooking lessons, and being taught how to make Kokoda (a Fijian dish) by the chef Sarai. The gym facilities were great and I enjoyed my Pilates class run by Annie. The downsides of staying at the resort would be that there is only a small area that accesses the beach that is mainly used for watersports. Most of the cabanas look out at the beach but are separated by a rock wall. However, most people are very happy swimming in the extra large pool, and it’s possible to swim in the beach if you really want. Also, we tried putting the glass bottle of water provided by the hotel in the hotel room fridge, but it turns out that this is a bad idea as it fell out and smashed as soon as we opened the fridge door. The hotel charged us $50 for the broken bottle, which was a bit frustrating. Also everything comes at an extra priced at the resort (kids club, food, access to the adults only area, and a large amount of the activities) so make sure that you account for a large spending budget if you plan on staying here. Food at the resort is not cheap (ie. a can of Coke costs $8 Fijian dollars). The highlights of staying here are all the amazing staff. There is an army of hardworking, professional staff that are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and all really lovely with kids (Thankyou kindly to the bell-hop Phillip who patiently answered our kiddo’s 101 questions about Fiji). Overall it’s been a really lovely holiday.

Complementary pillow shop at the hotel is the best idea ever!

I wanted to mention Clare.M at the pillow shop. Being able to select your own pillow of choice depending on what type of pillow you like is the ultimate hotel experience and I wish every hotel did this, it really does help for a good night sleep. The Waitui Club at this hotel is the perfect place for a few glorious days of rest and relaxation. Tucked in at the far end of the property it offers peace and quiet with all service that is needed. The pool, beach, bar and restaurant all work together to form the perfect holiday. Its also fun to join the "family end" of the hotel to share the great buffet breakfasts.
