The hotel seems a bit tired and at a point where it needs refurbishment. For example, the lifts appear to not be fully working - the doors on one of the lifts did not open on some floors, or only partially opened, and then had to be manually pulled apart. In terms of the area - it is within walking distance of Santos Dumont Airport. It is within walking distance of public transport - the metro and VLT at Cinelandia area 10 minute walk away. It is not the most pleasant area at night, with numerous homeless people loitering - However, in fairness to the hotel, this is not their fault and there is 24 hour security in the hotel. The air conditioning was running in my room on arrival and the curtains had been kept closed to keep the heat out, which is appreciated. Staff at the hotel speak basic English. An issue with the in room safe was resolved through the use of google translate, but even with the language barrier, reception had maintenance in my room in under 10 minutes, which is very good service. There is a good selection for breakfast. There is good, fast wifi. However, it was apparent that my room had been well used and the fridge, for example, would have benefited from a deep clean. The hotel was ok for a short stay, but I would consider other hotels if in Rio de Janeiro again.

Smelly room, impossible to open windows, aircon sounds like a 20 year old Lada, bar and restaurant closed by 10pm, avoid at all costs, amongst the worst hotels it has even been my displeasure to endure. Bedsheets dirty, looks like beds were made up by a really disgruntled employee

T his is a 2-star hotel. It looks nicer online and in photos. We booked this in early January and by then, not many hotels were available, due to the carnival, which runs Feb 9th to 14th. It's in 'central' but the surrounding area is desolated, except every morning, the dressed up or down carnival crowds gathers by the hotel. The room is small but functional. The bed and pillow are ok. Shower water pressure is pretty strong, which is good. Same dirty plates are often left in the hall way for extended time. It provides a mini refrigerator and a safe. - condensation fm the air conditioner drips, and they never provide an extra towel to absorb it - slow elevators - room isn't cleaned every day - no biggie The bar in the lobby is ok. I didn't visit restaurant on the first floor. We used Uber or taxi to get around.

Ibis Santos Dumont is really great convenice option. Very clean. The staff very helpful as always. The room cleaners very proffesional. I would like to than Miss Alexandra to keep my room always clean. Was very nice to always arrive and experince the room very clean

The *only* way to drink water is to go down to the bar and buy it

This is the first time I see a hotel that doesn’t provide means to drink water in their rooms. There is no water or drinking cups in the rooms. You can only get water by going down to the bar and buying it, because they also don’t provide room service. If they can be *that* insensitive to something that elementary, you can fill the blanks for the rest.
