It is indeed in an industrial area yet it is surrounded by lots of green and the morning birds' songs are delightful. I fully recommened it as a good choice for a budget hotel. Apart from the staff (who were really friendly and helpful) I can’t find anything to recommend this hotel. The first room we were given, the air conditioning didn’t work. The reception lady very kindly moved us to a different room but the air conditioning didn’t work either. The shower head was missing the proper bracket so you could only shower holding the spray head. The mattress on the bed was quite thin and not comfortable. Unless you have a dedicated Swiss adapter you can’t use any of the electrical sockets as they are all recessed into a triangular socket plate. So we couldn’t charge a phone or use my hairdryer (there isn’t one provided in the room). There is the option to buy an adapter from reception (the Swiss do like getting you to part with your money). Also, if you need to park your car it’s 10 Swiss francs a night. We stopped over for 1 night to break up a long drive from Italy to Calais, but won’t be stopping again.

This is a typical Ibis Budget hotel with the usual room layout of the chain (double bed and a bunk bed across). The location is very convenient if you attend a concert in the nearby "Z7" venue, otherwise it's not a very nice spot and rather out of the way if your destination is Basel proper. The hotel is clean, friendly staff, and the small breakfast is fine.

So this is one of the cheapest hotels in or near Basel (and best in mind this is Switzerland where everything is expensive compared to the UK). Our family of 5 stayed here twice on route to and from Italy, during Covid (14/08/20 and 20/08/20). Location isn’t great but it is 5 minutes off the motorway and hidden within an Industrial Estate. Look for the Lumimart lighting store with the MagicX sexshop above (with giant naked woman in the window, much to our teenage son’s delight). Hotel is setup well with good Covid protections in place. Restaurant is obviously closed but there’s a breakfast takeaway bag (coffee, orange juice, 2x mini croissants, bread roll and jams etc) available for 8CHF each and you’ll have to eat in your room as all communal areas are closed. We didn’t think it was great value and on our second visit, found a Conforama mall around the corner, a McDonalds and an Ikea that does breakfast but doesn’t open until 10am. There’s a coin coffee machine in the lobby 2.50CHF but it only takes Swiss franc coins and not euros. Staff on reception were polite, pleasant and efficient, and spoke multiple languages with a smile. Rooms are typical double with single bunk above. They’re clean and convenient. Don’t bring a cat though as you won’t be able to swing it around. You know it’s budget as there’s no locks on the bathroom door and the loo paper is that waxy stuff. But they’re clean and you can’t hear next door flushing. We booked two rooms during each visit and were always put next door to each other. One major negative that left a bad taste is having to pay 10CHF for parking in their narrow carpark. Second visit we parked on the road (no lines or notices) but we’re told we had to park in the carpark. Seriously? 10CHF for parking in an Industrial Estate with ample street parking around? Felt a bit conned, but it’s a cheap hotel and they have to make their money somehow. There is no restaurant here but there are multiple fooderies within walking distance. See my other review for Tado Restaurant which we went to twice because it was so good. All in all, will stay here again if passing through Basel.
