Pros Car park is free ( if you can find it with the one- way road system) Good location Staff were friendly including the lady who looked after the breakfast service. Cons Very small room and bed wasn't particularly comfortable. Facilities didn't work. Heating didn't work despite attention by staff to fix. Was still blowing cold air. Kettle didn't work. Was replaced with another which also didn’t work. Carpet in room could do with a thorough clean. Hallway carpet was filthy. Breakfast was ok.

2 night stay for hadrians wall

We stayed here on our trek of Hadrian's Wall west to east raising money for our local hospice. We booked 2 nights after arriving on the Saturday and getting a taxi to the start point Sunday. All staff were welcoming and friendly. We didn't have breakfast as we weren't sure on timings we would be out but were really impressed by the set up we saw and effort to maximise sustainability. Although a city centre location we didn't have much noise on the Saturday and it was very silent on the Sunday night. Central location with easy access to everything. We had a few drinks in the hotel bar too and the lads played pool. All in all a great stay and we would recommend!

Staff came into my room at 3am and woke me up but that wasn’t the only reason why I didn’t sleep a wink!

I stayed here for one night on an overnight business trip with two colleagues. We arrived at midnight having had a long 10 hour drive. There was a large free car park at the rear of the hotel and a rear entrance to the hotel. Both staff members at that time were friendly and welcoming and we got booked in and went to our rooms. As we were all going in to our rooms another guest came out of a room and was talking to themselves loudly and walked off down the corridor. I thought nothing more of it and assumed (rightly or wrongly) they were a drug user/addict. I locked my room door and tried to get some sleep! By 2am I was woken by the sound of intermittent screaming from what sounded like differing parts of the hotel. One was directly outside my room so I assumed again it was the same person wandering around the hotel corridors screaming randomly. This was far from ideal but I tried to get back to sleep until about 3am when I’d just dropped off again. This time a hotel staff member let himself into my room and overriding the door lock I had put on. I immediately sat up in bed shocked that someone had come into my room while I was sleeping. The staff chap saw me and said “Oh, sorry” and then went back out of the room. Again I tried to get back to sleep but the night screamer was still going strong and by 4am a car alarm started going off repeatedly. The last scream was at 06:30 and the car alarm stopped at 06:40. My alarm went off at 07:00! The hotel was basic but relatively clean although the carpets were a little old and tired. I have read that this backs onto a nightclub but luckily I didn’t hear any of that or I really would have thought it was a wind up! Breakfast was good and well stocked but the coffee was terrible and I really needed it that particular morning! I had to say something to the day reception upon check out. I explained that I would have to report back to my work travel booking office to strike this one off the list as it was simply the worst hotel experience I’d ever had as I simply could not sleep due to staff and fellow guests. My advice would be to get a similar priced hotel just outside the town centre.

As usual, reception and bar colleagues cannot be faulted. Going the extra mile seems to bein their DNA. Didn't have breakfast but evening food, especially the jacket potatoes, well cooked. The room: bathroom pod as usual very good. Powerful shower. Carpet needs a wet clean and under the bed is thick with dust. For the price of the room a wall mounted television opposite bed (at least 42") would be great. Seems no hand towels supplied any more.

Perfect location in the city, nearby the station and close to the amenities of the town. The hotel bar is nice, staff are great, the room a bit dated but adequate for what it was needed for. Will definitely return when visiting this city for business or leisure again.
