Nice hôtel with bad recent changes

I've been using this hotel for several years. It's good value for money. The staff is pleasant and the rooms are clean. I'll definitely go back. But... But... there's a problem. Until last year, there was also a very nice menu at the restaurant: lamb, beef (really, really good), cheesecake... alas, a fake "Tricatel" French-style cuisine has taken over, replacing what was admittedly simple but honest food. Now it's mediocre, proceceed, mass-produced. There are no more fresh fries... In reality, this change is a disgrace. "Tricatel" comes from an old French film ("l'aile ou la cuisse" with a famous actor of Spanish origin). It's the story of a highway manager who becomes the supplier for most of the restaurants in France. Like a prophecy. Spain resist !

No car charging, unlikely to be fixed soon.

Do not visit this hotel if you want to charge your car. One charger has not worked for a year and the Tesla one does not work now either, This added one hour to my journey the next day as I had to find a charge point. The staff were uninterested,

I would have given 4 stars, due to the amazing evening staff at this hotel and restaurant. They were suberb, friendly, welcoming, helpful and warm. The room was exactly as expected, basic but clean and comfy, and breakfast was good. The location is very convenient on a road trip, just a few minutes off the main route. That was the purpose of the visit, so, with another 10 hours driving in front of us, an early start was key. However we were unable to leave the hotel as a large laundry van was totally blocking the only available exit. Surely this is a daily occurrence at this time, so the taciturn man on the desk would have known this, and could have opened the other gate. I appreciate it’s a one way system but there certainly won’t be any guests arriving that early. Instead we had to sit there for 15 minutes, with other cars gathering behind us, while the laundry was collected. Very poor customer service. On our return trip we are looking at other hotels, which is a shame.

Stayed here with two mates for one night after the Europa League final in Bilbao. Very friendly staff. Nice little breakfast included and such good value! Very comfy bed and was perfect for our needs! On the AP 8 motorway as well so very easy access to Bilbao, San Sebastian and also Biarritz. Very happy with our stay.

I love the Accor chain and try and use their hotels wherever in the world - from the cheapest to the best. Irun weighs in at the cheap end - an overnight stop over on a drive down through France to Spain. Room was perfect - shower excellent and air conditioning. Dinner menu was functional but broad, well prepared and tasty. They have salads too. Staff charming. Secure parking. Nowhere else to eat locally. But as I say, good restaurant and decent wine. Walking across the main road into the leafy housing estate opposite provides hills to stretch the legs after a long day driving
