More 'budget' hotel than anything else!! ***

We stayed in the first week of September. We were very surprised to find the room and facilities were more ‘budget’ than anything else. Size of the room was very tight! We hardly had any space to put our suitcases. The bathroom facilities were very very basic. There was no shower tray, so the water spills into the rest of the bathroom. The shower curtains actually touch the toilet! The toilet had no lid. So felt incredibly unhygienic. Also taking into consideration the bathroom door was a sliding one and didn’t close properly nor did it have a lock. The bathroom also didn’t have an extractor. There were building works going on right next door to our room door (6th Floor). So being woken up by a drill was the icing on the cake (Pre 9am). Surely hotel staff could have offered us a room on a different floor?!

Good location, walkable to centre

This was our first visit to Glasgow so not familiar with the city and location of things, but booked this hotel because of good prices and good reviews. Our room with two twin beds was tiny by North American standards, but it was clean and well organized, and the tiny bathroom was fine as well, with plenty of hot water for the shower. There are a lot of seagulls in Glasgow and sometimes their shrieking outside woke me up in the middle of the night even with the windows closed, but at least there were no noisy bars nearby. Might recommend earplugs if you're a light sleeper. When we arrived from the airport and got off at Queen Street Station, we walked along one of the streets below the hotel and found very little life in terms of restaurants or shops. The streets felt very quiet. But then we discovered Sauchiehall Street, which is very close by and much better for walking if you're looking for bars, restaurants, shops etc. We walked this street each morning to get to the centre, and it leads directly to the centre, with Buchanan Galleries, etc. If you happen to be Canadian, you'll find restaurants on the expensive side in Glasgow. Our first breakfast in the city, at a place we found near Queen Street Station, converted to $60 Canadian for two simple egg plates and two lattes. A traditional Scottish breakfast seems to go for about 14 or 15 pounds in many restaurants around town, which converts to $30 Canadian. But on our second morning we found a much better deal at a nearby pub, Hengler's Circus, at the corner of Holland and Sauchiehall. It was a quiet. pleasant place that served a very nice breakfast, and you could order smaller items like porridge with fruit, toast and jam or a basic egg and cheese sandwich. Took us a while to realize the waitress doesn't take your order there. You have to put your order in and pay at the bar, tell them what your table number is, and then a server brings it to you. We had a very nice breakfast there several days in a row. If you like Thai food, Thairiffic, also on Sauchiehall. had very nice food and service as well. We were very happy with this hotel and would recommend it.

Very nice hotel, perfect location. They’re currently getting work done but never in the early hours of the morning which I think is brilliant. Didn’t sit in the common area but it looked really nice and quiet with a fully stocked bar!
