Unacceptable hygiene and complete lack of customer service

We were shocked by the unhygienic state of our rooms: toenail clippings on the nightstand, black hairs on the floor, and even a lollipop inside a pillow. Despite reporting this immediately, the cleaning was superficial at best. We emailed the hotel three times and received no response at all. As loyal guests over four generations, we are deeply disappointed. Unacceptable hygiene and complete lack of customer service — we do not recommend this hotel.

A nice hotel severely let down by service.

First of all I would say the hotel is really nice. It's set on the hill so you need a car and / or will regularly use the funicular to get to the beach areas. The rooms are very nice and the pool area is fantastic. The reason for my dissatisfaction is the staff. We went to the bar one night and I was stood waiting with another guest with both of us waiting for about 5 minutes whilst the bar man served someone else. An additional guest walked up to the bar and the bar man turned around and served him immediately. Either the bar man isn't good at looking at who should be next or there was a clear element of him wanting to serve his Spanish guests ahead of other hotel guests. The restaurant is expensive and for my mind not good value for money. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to request re-fills, no one keeps an eye on your glass and the staff are generally absent. The bit that really annoyed me though is we were told on arrival we hadn't paid for breakfast but could take it if we wanted and were told it was 14 Euros per person. On the last day we took breakfast and went to pay and were told it was 96 Eurors (for the 4 people). I told them that's not what we were told and had to argue for an eternity with the staff being told "it's a misunderstand so you just have to pay it" - they could have made up any price and their logic "could" still hold true. I explained it wasn't my misunderstanding and after about 20 minutes a compromise was mad but on top of other staff issues I felt it really compounded my thoughts on the hotel. It's very unlikely I'd return and I don't see this as a good example of a Mercure hotel compared to others we've stayed it.

Only the view No service, no shuttle for the city center and employees are not concerned. We had to ask to have what we should expect in the room

Ideal location with stunning over La Concha beach. Beautiful not too busy swimming sometimes interrupted by the cheering of the amusement park. Clean and spacious room with comfortable beds. Bathroom clean but slightly outdated. Breakfast overpriced for limited choice. Beter to go for w 10 mins drive and take a delicious breakfast at Somos. Parking on the spot is very practical. All and all, would recommend.

Located on a hill top on the edge of the famous La Goncha… beach, you cannot get a better view of San Sebastian and the Atlantic Ocean. Good spacious lobby (with its own certain style) and good restaurant, all with stunning views. Rooms are well-and suitably sized, some of which also have a balcony. For the best views, try to get a room with a city view and not an ocean view - for the absolute best views. Monte Igualdo also hosts a tivoli, so for the best experience try to get a room on the 4.th floor, for less noise. Very recommendable
