My room was not ready until after 7pm, like many other guests waiting in reception. We had to ask constantly on the status of our room, instead of having customer service informing us of the progress. Once we were given access, the corridor of our floor was disheveled with dirty sheets, cleaning carts, rubbish and food. I wouldn't imagine any guest being satisfied that the hotel ate 5 hours into our 24 hours stay in Rotorua. After pressing the duty manager for the real reason our room wasn't ready, we were told he was short staffed. We witnessed your reception staff were having to deal with the pressure of so many dissatisfied and upset customers - your duty of care of your staff should be heightened. I am a gold Accor member just about to turn platinum and had travelled from the Pullman Auckland, and due to my experience, when next in Rotorua, I will stay at the Pullman.

Our stay with the kids was pleasant. However, upon arrival, cleanliness was lacking. Particularly concerning was finding two cards with someone else's name on them. Additionally, there was an empty water bottle at the doorstep, presumably left by the previous occupant.

We enjoy staying at Novotel but do feel like rooms are getting tired especially the carpets, I dread to think what's living in them and the stains are quite off putting. New carpets would make a huge difference. More staff required during school holidays would help with service, we were disappointed with Atlas restaurant for dinner and breakfast, standard had dropped. Felt like there was a lot of cost cutting but prices had increased. We had mentioned during our last stay about the dangers of the wet floors outside pool and gym area and were told something would be done to make it safer.. Nothing has been done and I slipped on the floor, luckily I have good balance but an elderly person would have fallen and hurt themselves. It's very easy to put mats down or find a solution to save people getting hurt.

Room was not ready when we arrived. The hotel gave us a complimentary drink at the bar, which was nice, but when we did reach the room the standard of cleanliness left a bit to be desired. Dusting is obviously not done and the bathroom definitely needs refreshing and was a bit grotty. Was expecting the hotel to provide robes and slippers, especially as we went to check out the pool and spa, but sadly none to be found. The pool area was stark and outdated and rather grim so we didn’t stay long. Other than that, the breakfast was nice, the staff were friendly and the location is great.
