False Advertising, Terrible Condition, Fraudulent Charges, No Attempt to Fix - Definitely not a 4 star ‘Resort’

I have emailed the Novotel Sunshine Coast requesting a refund of incorrect charges for an ‘upgrade’ that was anything but! Staff that tried to fix our disastrous accomodation told us that I would not be charged an upgrade however, when I went to check out 6 days later, I was told that they had already done an express check out and they stated that there had been no additional charges. However, when I checked my bank account after boarding my flight back home, I found that they had charged me an upgrade fee TWICE! $645.86 NZD and $646.07 NZD! I am utterly disappointed, angry & astounded even that they have charged this, and not responded to my email requesting this to be resolved. After the terrible experience we had with check in and our first night in the ‘suite’ 193. I had fallen for an email advertising the ‘upgrade’ opportunity. After reviewing the very limited amount of photos on their website, I agreed to an upgrade. NOTE: Photos of 193 in the state it’s in now, or any room that hasn’t been refurbished, are NOT advertised/shown on their website. Totally False advertising! Imagine the horror we felt when we entered room 193. It was in disrepair, the pull out couch bed wasn’t even worthy of use as a couch, not sitting well, with massive rips and tears in the cushions. The floor was dirty, walls had gashes, majority of power points in the place didn’t work. The louvre doors had thick dust between every slat, looking like they’d never been cleaned. Also, having 2 louvre doors does not create a separate bedroom! Sound & light get through. One nights sleep on the pullout couch caused me so much pain throughout my back, neck and shoulders. Room 193 does not belong in a ‘Resort’! I understand that they are refurbishing parts of the Resort at a time… but they can’t seriously consider charging guests an ‘upgrade’ fee to stay in a room/‘suite’ that are not fit for paid accommodation. I haven’t seen such bad conditioned accommodation in 40 years in either student flats or hotels or motels. Both my Mother in Law and myself, were too embarrassed to take photos and share with family, and when family came to visit, we were too ashamed to let them come into the room/‘suite’. I met another guest during my stay that was as disgusted when she was placed in one of the ‘suites’. She was given a $250AUD refund on her stay! Yet they charged me $1,300 for 6 nights for a fake ‘upgrade’ that gave myself and my mother in law the WORST night of our lives - ever! And we have both traveled extensively for many years. We only stayed in the awful ‘suite’ for one night as one of their helpful staff moved us. We should not have to pay for the first night (Monday 5th) at all and certainly not have bern charged any upgrade. I do want to commend 2 of their staff for their brilliant customer service. Thomas and Toby (might have been Brody). Their patience, care and willingness to find solutions and help guests, is commendable and what Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort management should hold as the gold standard for all staff to aim for. They did you proud and are the only reason that my Mother in Law & I didn’t leave on the 6th and move our accommodation elsewhere. However, the crafty ‘express’ checkout where an additional $1,300 was charged undid all the good those staff did. We had to pay for everything as we went e.g. lunches, dinners and bar orders as we were told (very rudely) by a female front desk staff member that they only let gold & silver members do charge back. Every hotel I have ever stayed at has done charge back, even other Novotel hotels. Novotel Sunshine Coast ‘Resort’ delivered the worst accommodation experience ever!!

Novotel disappointment.

We went to twin waters about 35 years ago with our family. It was new then and was wonderful. We decided to go again even though the reviews were bad and as I thought we were very disappointed. I’ll start with reception. We weren’t welcomed at all. I’m in a wheelchair and I asked if someone could help with our luggage and was told they would and nobody came and then we were told to just park the car behind the resort near our room and we had to try and get our luggage to the room ourselves. The reviews said the resort had been refurbished but our room had not! We had room 182, a king suite, lagoon view room with a kitchenette. The room was old, dirty, walls scuffed, Fridge dented, mould in the toilet and bathroom and weird flying ants everywhere. There was dirty linen that had been left on the table and a cleaning lady came to collect it about an hour after we had been in the room. It was disgusting! I asked for the AC to be adjusted to 19 as it was on 21 which is too hot for me. I know they’re preset but can be adjusted but this was refused twice! I’m in a wheelchair. There wasn’t very good accessibility and only one ramp to the main areas that was constantly blocked off and I was unable to access the main areas. I wasn’t able in the pool area either. They advertised a kids club but there wasn’t one. We went with our grandson who’s 5. They had a kids ‘room’ of sorts. It had a tv that played the same movie over the 4 days we were there. There was an Xbox that only 2 kids could play at a time and not much else. The room had old dining chairs and that’s it. They could’ve painted it in bright colours and had bean bags on the floor etc to make it fun for kids. You couldn’t charge anything to the room. Everything extra like drinks or food had to be paid by cash or credit card. I couldn’t call reception from our room phone. All the times I tried I got other guests rooms which was embarrassing. I also couldn’t call housekeeping as nobody ever answered. I went to reception to tell them about all the issues we had but they didn’t care. There were no solutions to anything. The only good thing was breakfast every morning. I had booked the special Xmas eve buffet dinner as fresh seafood was advertised. There wasn’t any fresh seafood. I had promised my husband and he was disappointed to say the least. Over Xmas there was heavy rain and the roof was leaking in the main areas. The staff placed buckets on tables where people were dining. The whole experience was very disappointing. We will NOT be going again and I will not recommend it to anyone. Novotel should consider their phones, accessibility, welcome, helping guests, housekeeping, refurbishing the rooms that have not been done and adding the kids club that was advertised.

Okay but wouldn’t come back

We stayed over the new year period and found the stay average. The positives were they put on a nice little event for new years, had a great pool, activity by the mini beach, within walking distance to the main beach and activities for the kids. Unfortunately, the room was really disappointing for the amount of money paid. It was dirty, stains on the walls and super loud aircon especially when trying to sleep. Super dusty and old. Not clean. It was really understaffed for the amount of guests staying. Especially at breakfast and the bar - huge line ups just to be seated for breakfast when there was tables available. The event for new years was good but could be improved with way more seating for everyone and more staff. The pancake machine at breakfast is great in theory but every time we went the line was huge and everyday it broke for someone taking quite a while to fix it - so lots of disappointed kids. Overall, the staff were lovely and the pool was great. It has the potential to be a really great resort but it seems they don’t want to put effort into uplifting the place. I’d probably save $$ and stay elsewhere next time.

Never Again!

Staff were mixed. Some were friendly and cheerful, while others were noticeably disengaged. The Sola restaurant was reasonable with a fair selection for dinner. However, the burger should be avoided, the bun was stale and unpleasant. Unfortunately, the rooms were well below an acceptable standard. The bedding had a strong, unpleasant odour to the point that two pillows had to be removed from the room and stored on the balcony. There was visible internal water damage to the ceiling with mould present. Dust build-up in the vents and throughout the room was excessive and concerning. The air conditioning was ineffective and extremely noisy, making sleep very difficult. Even when switched off, a loud hum continued and could be heard from outside the room. Daily housekeeping was inconsistent, some days were satisfactory, while others were extremely poor. Overall, the resort appears to be suffering from significant neglect. Severe water damage is visible throughout the property, along with fallen trees and uneven pathways at the rear of the accommodation that appear to have been left unattended for a long time. I have stayed at numerous Novotel properties across Australia, and this was by far the worst experience. It has unfortunately led me to decide that I will not stay at another Novotel again.

Poor Service

We were there for a work christmas party under the name Lisa and Shane Keefe. We were extremely disappointed with the restaurant and bar setup. you have a very expensive menu and expect customers who are paying $52 a steak to get up and order at the counter and go to the bar to order there drinks. I understand this at a local pub or tavern but not at your resort, there should have been table service! We spent a small fortune there and could not believe the service that was not included, you really need to change this.
