Room was small yet practical, and just 15 minutes’ walk from Gunwharf Quays. Staff like Svetlana and Marley worked hard, but breakfast was understaffed—tables left uncleared and food not restocked. Would stay again for the service and location, but will skip breakfast next time.

Stayed for a night in a twin room with my teenage son as somewhere to sleep after attending a gig at the Guildhall. Check in was relatively smooth and lobby and bar area is pleasant enough. Our room was very small and beds were narrow (2ft,6ins) but mattresses were at least comfortably soft. The bathroom however was minuscule and a bit of a problem - as quite a large guy (186cm and 105kg) accessing the loo was a challenge and for anyone taller or heavier or even shorter and much heavier it would have been near impossible. I can only guess that the Ibis designer was a relatively short and skinny person! The included breakfast was pretty good - similar to any Holiday Inn or Novotel stay so overall the Ibis wasn’t bad value and certainly better than the Travelodge we stayed at en route to Cornwall in the summer. However if you plan to spend much time relaxing in your hotel room there are better options.

Two night stay for the Great South Run. Parking available, in reasonably sized car park, for £12. The room was quite small, not much room to walk around a double bed. The bathroom was also small with toilet squeezed into a corner. Not sure I would want to stay for longer than two nights. The staff were polite and helpful. There is a lovely large communal area with loads of seating and a lovely fish tank. Bar and restaurant available. We didn't partake in the buffet breakfast but our friend did and she said it was very nice with a large selection of items. We could not justify the £12 cost. My only disappointment was the fact that recycling facilities were not available. When I spoke to the receptionist she suggested I could possible take my recycling outside and put it in a bin in the street! I would expect a large company like Ibis to promote recycling along with their Green Rewards if you "skip the clean"

The welcome we were given was second to none! Really friendly receptionists, bending over backwards to help. They noticed that I have slight mobility issues and kindly offered us an accessible room. It was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and there was no noise at all coming from other guests which is very unusual! The only niggle I had was that there was nowhere to put toiletries whilst having a shower and the bathroom was not quite as slip proof as I'd have liked. Also the bedroom carpet was a bit jaded. We'd had a stressful journey from Heathrow to Portsmouth so headed straight to the bar where the lovely barmaid seemed to see my pain and treated me with the utmost kindness. I ended up telling her all about my awful experience with our taxi driver - which is not at all like me - and she was incredibly sympathetic. Only wish I'd noted her name. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel which were fine. It was good to see the breakfast buffet being constantly replenished. When we asked for croissants, the guy told us they were in the oven and actually brought some to our table when they were ready. We shall have no hesitation whatsoever in staying at this hotel again!

A nice hotel for a visit of a group of friends close to all Portsmouth attractions where it was clean and friendly However when a few of us went back for a couple of drinks at 10.30pm on the Saturday the bar tender had a bit of a poor attitude and had already packed away the majority of drinks which meant the hotel lost out on some revenue.
