Our check in was excellent as Susan was friendly and efficient. The hotel is an older hotel but the renovated room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast room was good and the meals reasonable. The garden bar was a lovely area to relax and the staff were friendly

Location feels unsafe particularly at night

We stayed in the Mercure Hotel in Bologna for 2 nights on our trip across Italy and it was the worst so far mainly due to the location (please research the station area of Bologna - it’s not good.) The hotel itself has undergone a recent makeover and the rooms are small but okay. You get a couple of free cans of juice/soda in the minibar. The breakfast is quite nice too, but busy from start to close. The biggest downside of the hotel is the location. Whilst it is opposite the station, this area of the city feels rough. There are many homeless and drug addicts, just outside the hotel entrance and station itself. In the small park area next to the hotel there are large groups of men/gangs openly drug dealing. On the second night we were there, there was a very large police presence next to the hotel which made it feel slightly safer, but the dealers were still relatively brazen, approaching people just beyond the sight of the Polizia. I would not recommend staying near the station area of Bologna unless you absolutely have to. The area near the university had similar issues.

Nice hotel - is Room Service a secret?

The Hotel is very nice, and in a great position. I was only staying one night and was in transit. I arrived early evening, hot and tired having travelled all day. There was no baggage service or baggage cart for me to do it myself. There was no information on the hotel services in the room and hotel channel on the TV offering services or info on them. I wanted to order room service, but couldn't see how to. There was tea & coffee but no milk. Went to sleep hungry and without a cup of tea! I would imagine the hotel makes income on these services & I would happily have paid it so that I didn't have to go out.

Great in Town!

Bologna Central station is 1 min walk to hotel. Rooms are very big and has all equipments. Bathroom was big enough and room has a great view. Hotel has a great garden to sit and relax. Breakfast was perfect no words needed :) Hotel employees were helpful and kind.

Lovely break offering very good value

Hotel is perfectly situated by the central station giving very easy access from airport and ideal for trains to visit nearby towns. 10 mins walk takes you into the centre of Bologna however there are ample restaurants on the doorstep. Very friendly welcome. We had a renovated Prestige room however it overlooked the station and not the garden. That said it is very well sound proofed. The room is large, modern and well equipped. Breakfast was of good quality. Felt that bread selection could be improved and one or two items missing but, that said, without doubt the breakfast is excellent value for money. Would happily return.
