This hotel is ideally situated across the street from the train station but also walkably close to the main squares in Bologna. Our room was nice and also quiet despite lots of traffic and lots of students at the train station. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast with fresh ricotta. Other reviews mentioned this being a bad area, but we never saw any drug deals, just lots of students. Be aware that there are homeless people all over Bologna, not just here.

Stayed for a 3 night stay … close to the train station only a couple of minutes walk to hotel. Staff where helpful and aloud us to check in early . Room was clean and comfortable and looked like it was recent been renovated we also had a view of the garden. Had a good choice for breakfast. Only a ten minute walk to the main square and other attractions. Down side was seemed to be a large number of homeless people around the hotel area (more visible in the evening) and other gang like men looking like the are up to no good but recommend you keep your whits about you. Also seemed to be a big police presence especially at night. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and would recommend.

Group booking, we even booked a meeting room with amenities.I informed Mercury I might have made a mistake during my booking using THEIR web site via the “note” field (I have proof of this). During registration, i was told they would charge for a double booking. Ended up charging me for one after the group organizer cancelled her room.Leaving me to pay for the higher priced booking (474 Euros). Management didn’t care. I even explained my experience on the survey they sent me later.I never received any follow up.THEY DON’T CARE!

Our check in was excellent as Susan was friendly and efficient. The hotel is an older hotel but the renovated room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast room was good and the meals reasonable. The garden bar was a lovely area to relax and the staff were friendly

Location feels unsafe particularly at night

We stayed in the Mercure Hotel in Bologna for 2 nights on our trip across Italy and it was the worst so far mainly due to the location (please research the station area of Bologna - it’s not good.) The hotel itself has undergone a recent makeover and the rooms are small but okay. You get a couple of free cans of juice/soda in the minibar. The breakfast is quite nice too, but busy from start to close. The biggest downside of the hotel is the location. Whilst it is opposite the station, this area of the city feels rough. There are many homeless and drug addicts, just outside the hotel entrance and station itself. In the small park area next to the hotel there are large groups of men/gangs openly drug dealing. On the second night we were there, there was a very large police presence next to the hotel which made it feel slightly safer, but the dealers were still relatively brazen, approaching people just beyond the sight of the Polizia. I would not recommend staying near the station area of Bologna unless you absolutely have to. The area near the university had similar issues.
