We have stayed at this hotel in the past as well as the Novotel next door. We preferred the Ibis, breakfast was better and it had a cosy bar. On this visit we walked through the door to a frosty reception and to be told that check in and breakfast was now located at the Novotel. The staff member was very rude and clearly fed up of redirecting visitors. Renovations were ongoing and there were no services in the hotel at all. No bar or breakfast, the best parts of the Ibis. We went to the Novotel to check in and decided to stay there instead, the staff were welcoming and we were not aware of the renovations at the Ibis and we did not wish to stay at a hotel while work is ongoing.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and were quite happy with our stay. The room was pretty small, but comfortable and had everything we needed, except tea/coffee facilities. We were very pleased to see no sign at all of the mosquitoes other reviews have complained about. We had a fault with a light in the room which was rectified while we were out in the daytime. The hotel is very conveniently located close to the important landmarks of the city and has convenient, albeit expensive, parking on site. There is a Carrefour Express supermarket just across the road, which proved a cheaper place to buy boxes of chocolates, although there are many chocolate shops throughout Bruges. We ate twice at the Fritbar just a little way along the street towards town.

This hotel is devoid of all services, you have to walk across the square for reception and food and it feels you are staying in a soulless building. The hotel is well overdue for a refurbishment. Our heating did not work. The noise from work in the hotel was loud with work starting at around 8am. On the way to breakfast we had to step over pipes, tools etc, a health and safety nightmare. The food and staff at the Novotel were very good but it seemed that if you were staying in the Ibis you were second class citizens. We have stayed at many Ibis hotels and this was the worse. The redeeming point is that it is quite centrally located. I can list other areas of concern but I think the above is enough!

As others have commented, things whilst the renovations are ongoing are very haphazard. Two things that should be considered by the management are firstly, tea and coffee making facilities should be provided in the rooms and secondly, rates should be adjusted downwards as you literally have a room and no other service in this hotel. Everything is dealt with at the Novotel over the courtyard and their poor front of house staff are having to deal with two hotels worth of customer service. Breakfast and pricing needs to be looked at as well. My advice is to take an objective look and ask yourselves if you would be happy with the levels of facilities, cleanliness and offering for the price being charged at present. We were not, hence the reason we never ate or drank here. The major bonus is car parking is adjacent

Decor is so old that it doesn’t matter how much you clean, it’s going to look dirty. Should have been renovated 10 years ago, but instead they’re doing it now, haven’t mentioned it on their website and were too cheap to close the hotel during renovations. Air con/heating unit disconnected and no proper ventilation in the room or bathroom unless you open the window - and let the mosquitoes in! TV card shows heaps of channels but only a few Flemish ones work. Everything looks grubby and I wouldn’t walk barefoot on the floor. We’ve stayed in Ibis hotels several times before. Our expectation is basic, but functional and clean. This hotel is far below that expectation! I wouldn’t book here unless you can confirm that a full renovation has been completed.
