We visited here as part of a coach party - visiting the Belgian Christmas markets. The central location of the hotel was excellent. Everywhere was so clean and staff were amazing. Buffet breakfast was fabulous too. Our only disappointment was the beds - the hotel do not provide twin beds, but doubles with a sofa (not even a converted sofa to bed, but a sofa.). This was far from ideal as either my sister or I had to sleep on a sofa! We understand the lack of information on this may be our coach companies responsibility - but it was a real disappointment that one of us would not get to sleep on a proper bed. We cannot understand why any hotel company would want their guests to sleep on a sofa!!! However, due to everything else being exceptional with the hotel, our stay was really enjoyable.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Novotel and sure it won't be the last. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful and the hotel and rooms are spacious and beautifully clean. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Deluxe Suite, which was a lovely surprise. We would likely spend the little extra to book one of these again when returning to Bruges. All rooms are well appointed and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities, fridge, luggage space and plenty towels. The location is perfect; short walk to and from the train station and only a few minutes stroll to the Markt Square. The staff are very accommodating and there is a secure left luggage area for arriving and checking out. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this but we're made aware we could pop in and pay if we changed our mind one morning which is a nice touch. There is parking next to the hotel underground, again we didn't use this as travelled via train, but it is very close to the hotel if you did take the car. All in all another fantastic stay and we will return to this hotel when we take another trip to Bruges. Highly recommended

At the standard you come to expect from Novotel - clean, courteous staff, good location. Perhaps needed a little more atmosphere other than. at breakfast time.

Be prepared to make your own beds

We travelled to Belgium in October for my birthday, staying in the Bruges Novotel Centrum for one night, the Ghent Novotel Centrum for one night, and two nights in the Brussels Novotel Centrum. We have been lucky enough to travel quite extensively, but we have never been told we had to make our own beds up! My wife and I and two children arrived from London late (around 7pm) on a Wednesday evening. We waiting - along with others - in the hotel reception waiting to check in, but with no staff to be seen, after around 15 minutes I checked in using the automated terminal. We then went up stairs to our room, exhausted, only to find that our room of one double bed and two single sofa beds only had one double - and a sofa. I went down to reception and, surprisingly, there was someone there now. I explained their mistake, showing my confirmation, only to be told that the sheets, quilts and pillows were in the room, and we were expected to make the two children's beds up ourselves. We had been travelling since 8am (after getting up at 6:30am) that morning (car, local train, London underground, Eurostar, local train, 20 minute walk) and wanted nothing more that to flop on our beds - particularly our young children. Surely one of the highlights of staying in a hotel room? Well, we didn't get that. Thing is, an apology would have meant everything, even if it was given with an explanation that is their hotel's policy. Just to clarify: Ghent Novotel, staff on reception and all beds made up; Brussels Novotel, staff on reception and all beds made up. Two stars because the hotel was immaculate, and the bar manager was very good.

We are truly sorry to read that your arrival did not go as expected, especially after such a long day of travelling with your family. This is certainly not the kind of welcome we wish to offer our guests. We would like to clarify our usual procedure: the additional sofa beds in our family rooms are already internally prepared with bedding, but during the day they are presented as a sofa so that guests can still use them as seating upon arrival. Normally, this information is clearly communicated at check-in. Unfortunately, at the moment of your arrival, our reception colleague was briefly away assisting another guest, and this explanation was therefore not given in time. Please accept our sincere apologies for this. We fully understand that this situation caused disappointment and frustration, particularly after a long journey with young children. You were absolutely right to expect a clear explanation and an apology at that moment, and we are very sorry that this was not handled as it should have been. We also understand your comparison with other Novotel hotels. While procedures may differ from one location to another, this should never affect guest comfort or expectations. Thank you as well for your kind comments regarding the cleanliness of the hotel and our bar manager, which we truly appreciate. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with our team and will be used to further improve our service. Once again, our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. The hotel is very ideally located — everything in the city centre is just a short walk away. The rooms are cosy and comfortable, and the reception staff were so warm and welcoming. We had requested an early check-in, which couldn’t be confirmed beforehand, but to our delight, they made it happen when we arrived. It really saved us, as we were travelling with a baby after a long journey. We truly appreciated their kindness. The breakfast was delicious and had a great variety. As a family with a baby, we loved the experience — it felt relaxed and enjoyable. The hotel’s restaurant is also excellent. The setup, the food, the wine, and especially the service — everything was lovely. The restaurant staff were genuinely friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The people, the food, and the location all made our time in Bruges really special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the city!
