Should be rebranded Oldotel, not Novotel

This hotel is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. Rooms are old and worn out. It’s more like an old hôtel ibis, Accor seems to be on the way down! For 200€ you will find much better options in the area. I guess Accor do not really care about the quality when the location brings enough business… If you have no choice than go there ask the rooms on the second floor, they are slightly better than the 1st floor.

Good choice of hotels for sightseeing.

The Novotel in Bayeux is a good basic hotel. The location is easy to get to and a great base from which to head out and explore. There is more than ample free parking. The rooms are well appointed for the price. There is a nice and clean little swimming pool in the back, and a surprising amount of lawn. Very relaxing. The high point of our stay was definitely the staff. All were friendly, courteous, and very professional. The manager was very responsive when my wife brought up a minor issue. The breakfast is very good, and we were surprised that we didn't have to pay for our 14 year old son. About the only downsides we encountered were the somewhat careworn look of the hotel, and the limited dinner menu. These are minor issues though. Overall I would recommend this hotel and I would certainly return.

Good, as usual, but with some shortcomings

This hotel is well placed and has the facilities which you expect of a Novotel. But we have never stayed in a Novotel which did not have a mini-fridge in the room. This was disappointing. It is not just a matter of convenience. Many people want or need to store small dairy items and, more importantly, medicines. It is not sufficient to be told, as we were, that items could be stored by reception. This is no good during the night. I was also surprised that a hotel which, because of its location, must have a large number of English-speaking visitors, has no English language tv channel available, not even a news channel. These aspects of your service need to be addressed.

Excellent family-friendly stay: brilliant service!

We stayed for one night on our way home from holiday. Room was clean and tidy with comfortably beds. Swimming pool was lovely. The staff were exceptionally helpful throughout. The night porter was particularly brilliant - he got breakfast ready for us despite it being very early and over one hour before breakfast was meant to start. We also had an excellent evening meal with the waiters very helpful for our youngest, who has a dairy allergy. Can’t speak highly enough of the service - it really was exceptional.

Disgraceful policy at Novotel

This hotel has a disgraceful policy where they withhold money which they calculate on costs you may occur, so they guess basically. They withheld €800 from our account which we were unaware of until we went to buy diesel and found the bank account empty. The hotel told us it's the policy of all Novotel hotels in France. So be aware. The hotel apparently could not help us after we rang them several times. Different staff answered each time and were unable to help, we had to keep explaining again which was very stressful and expensive too. Anyone going there be aware of this terrible policy. They also charged us for three days breakfast which we did not have. We only had one. Thankfully we noticed before we left and got a refund. It is listed as 4 star which it doesn't deserve. The breakfast is shabby ...not fresh...and as there's a lack of hygiene as people are just picking up the bread and cutting it one after the other...no gloves. We arrived back one day to find our room had been left open presumably by the cleaning staff. The rooms are small...you could hardly get in the toilet and close the door. Altogether a stressful experience there. Id advise not to go there. There's lots of other hotels in Bayeux, they couldn't be worse.

We're deeply sorry you did not understand the concept of preauthorization which is a standard procedure practiced in most hotels to cover potential incidentals and not have you pay each time you want to order drinks at the bar or eat at the restaurant. The goal is to make your stay more comfortable, however it is not mandatory and you can pay directly for your room at check-in if you prefer. A preauthorization is not a payment and it requires your credit card and pin code to work, which you did when you arrived, therefore it's not fair to say you were unaware that this deposit happened since you agreed to do it.
