I’m not quite sure how this hotel is a 4 star, it’s barely a 2! The only redeemable feature of the hotel are the staff, who are very friendly & the food in the restaurant was nice. The hotel is very, very tired and clearly needs updating, when you walk into reception the walls & skirting boards are missing paint, the lift area is the same, all of the communal areas look grubby. We had been driving for 8 hours so just wanted to go to sleep, we should really have left but we were so tired we decided to get our heads down and stay. The bedroom was awful. the carpets were dirty & when I moved the sheets to get into bed there were black hairs! I took a towel from the bathroom to lay on & sprayed the room with fly spray as there were flies everywhere. The room smelled musty and the walls & skirting boards were again missing paint and marked everywhere. The bathroom window was gross, needs ripping out! There was a large gap under the sink area & plumbing is visible & toilet flush was broken on one button. We couldn’t wait to leave.

To be honest, when we arrived outside the Mercure we thought it looked a bit of a dump, very weary and in need of a makeover - the receptionist was charming and professional - our Superior Room was ok, reasonably comfortable for an overnight stay - the public areas downstairs were also very tired and unkept - the floor in the residents lounge was covered in potato crisps probably dropped by some wayward child - the photos showing the hotel on Booking.com show an attractive river frontage, but in reality it fronts a small offshoot of the main river which was not too picturesque - for us, the saving grace was the hotel restaurant which was clean, the food very good and the service excellent - we would recommend the restaurant, but the hotel needs some up-dating and love !

The hotel is 200 metres from the centre of Epinal so it is very simple and quick to get into town. However because the hotel is around a corner from the town, there is very little noise from it. It was the best of both worlds. The staff were superb. Friendly and helpful. They have 2 electric charge points but on arrival both were blocked by non electric cars. The gentleman on reception contacted the owners and one of them moved their car a short time afterwards. Reception then reserved the bay and let me know it was free. Great service. I think that the hotel has just been refurbished. Our room was very good indeed. The breakfast was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can recommend heartily.

Improvement needed.

Hotel is comfortable and renovated in some part. Breakfast was disappointing Service was non existent. The bacon was cold, so were the scrambled eggs. The cold meat selection was poor and cut, sliced to thick. Not what I expect from a four star hotel.

It was terrible. Got sick after sleeping a night there. Ac is terrible was probably never cleaned. If you have asthma good luck there. Service is terrible they do not clean rooms. Concierge isn’t friendly , and you have to pay extra just to have access to amenities. At a 4 star hotel they can’t even give you free water. A catastrophy the room looked like a communist era room
