A Comfortable 4-Night Stay in the Heart of Solo

We stayed at Novotel Solo for four nights to celebrate a birthday and the school holidays. The hotel’s primary advantage is its strategic location, which made it very convenient to reach the various sites on our itinerary. The check-in process was efficient; we arrived at 3 PM and were settled into our room within ten minutes. We also appreciated the upgrade from our reserved Executive Room to a Family Room. The hotel staff facilitated a thoughtful birthday surprise for my daughter with a cake, which was well-received and added a nice touch to our arrival. The room was spacious, comfortably accommodating a king bed and a single bed, and offered a clear view of the city from the top floor. The interior design features a 90s aesthetic combined with Javanese cultural elements, such as batik motifs and wayang mosaics on the ceiling. Even though our room faced the street, it remained clean and the noise insulation was effective. Regarding facilities, the hotel is well-equipped for families. My children enjoyed the kids' club and the pool area, which includes a dedicated children’s pool with slides. The breakfast buffet offered a consistent variety of choices, and we enjoyed the opportunity to try local items like Gudeg and Jamu. Overall, the staff was helpful and attentive throughout our stay. Given the location, value, and the standard of service, we would consider returning for future visits."

Highly Deceptive Advertising

On the plus side, the front entry and foyer looks impressive. Unfortunately that is where it ends. Cons: Premier room - unlike any other Novotel hotel which advertises this, the 'club' lounge which after asking a nunber of staff, was supposedly open 5 - 7. We were told we had to leave at 6 owing to another event and only serves tea and coffee. Other beverages are extra (no alcohol available), and on leaving were escorted to the payment area. Rooms are smoking and non smoking. Breakfast which was terrible (maybe great for locals) was cold and unappetizing and had to be paid as an extra on checkout. Could not order room service as the phone did not work. Locked out of room as the 'safety' lock apparently engaged when we left the room. In no way a 4 star hotel and left a day early and checked into a true 5 star hotel, the Alila, Hyatt in Solo (exceptional) and well worth the additional money.

This could be a nice hotel if they would have soundproofed the rooms during the renovation. The front of the hotel is situated along a very busy major road, so all night long you get waked up every 10 or 15 minutes by cars or motorcycles driving by at high speed. Asking for a room at the back doesn't help because you can then 'enjoy' their karaoke nights. But what is worse of all is that every sunday at 5.45 pm hotel staff starts yelling in a megaphone right in front of your room. When you complain to reception hey say 'this is normal, there is an event every sunday morning'. Breakfast is nothing special, but apart from that and the noise in the rooms this could be a very nice hotel.

We've booked two suites for a night, we came pretty late about 4.30 pm but the room was not ready yet. The club access was a bit strange because they renovated the area and so it was change to the bar near the pool. But the menu they offer was just poor, drink was just a jar of tee and coffee. others must be additional cost. In the room the safety box was defect but as we back to the room it was functioning again. But there was mosquitos in the room, my daughter has several bites on her face. The hotel is also pretty crowdy. Maybe they have to adjust their standard a little bit.
