Bringing fam to Cairo

First time at this hotel and all in all it was not a bad experience. The food at the restaurant was ok for the most part with multiple options. Some of the food lack flavor some didn’t. The pastry and breads were good. The service was good for the most part at restaurant. The server Nancy was great after she warmed up to our group. The location was very close to airport. They have shuttle. The pillows are not the best in feel and comfort. The beds are medium soft in feel. The grounds are clean. We stayed for a total of 5 days at this hotel. If you want to be close to airport it should be high on your list.

Dirty rooms and poor service

We booked a room for one night because we landed at Cairo at 130am and thought it would be easier to stay at the airport hotel for a night (really only ~10h) and then transferring to our regular hotel. Unfortunately, despite having sent messages in advance, no one had confirmed availability of the free airport shuttle for pickup from the hotel, so we had to spend 10USD on a cab. The entry and lobby are very nicely decorated and updated, but that seems to be as far as that goes. To go to the rooms you pass through some hospital style swinging double doors beyond which you see an extremely rundown dingy hallway that does not at all match the appearance of the lobby. After checking in, when we arrived at the room we were given we were surprised to find the door open, and a staff member restocking the toilet paper and water bottles. The bathroom also only had 1 towel despite us booking for 2 adults. As we spent more time we realized we most likely had been given a room that was still in the middle of being cleaned/turned over before guests as the place was filthy - multiple hairs all over the bedsheets, and the one remaining towel had an odor suggesting it had not been washed. (I am giving the benefit of the doubt that cleaning was pending, rather than that is the typical level of cleanliness for a room). This is despite us having a) booked this room a couple months prior and including our arrival time in the booking and b) us arriving several hours after checkin time, so really no excuse to not have a room fully ready. We called and asked for a second bath towel and it took over an hour to get it. While waiting we even went back to the front desk to ask again and were met with extreme irritation that we were bothering them about it again when it was “on the way”. In the morning we slept through the breakfast time so cannot comment on that but were able to order a sandwich and Turkish coffee at the bar. This food also took well over the “15-20 mins” they claimed it would take - we picked a sandwich thinking it would be fast! But the sandwich was very delicious. There are some shops also in the hotel near the lobby; we tried to just buy some snacks/protein bars at one of them but didn’t end up doing so because the prices were mind-boggling (like $10 for one protein bar.) Having stayed at Novotels and other airport hotels before, this stay was extremely underwhelming and disappointing and not at all to the standard expected from Novotel and not worth the price.

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the entire kitchen team at Novotel Cairo Airport—especially to Chef Shaker—for their outstanding service. The quality of the food, the cleanliness, the presentation, and most importantly, the care taken with food allergies were all exceptional. Many times in other restaurants, I’ve faced challenges managing my wife’s food allergies. But for the very first time, that stress disappeared thanks to Chef Shaker’s professionalism and deep understanding of the issue. He handled it with a level of care and expertise that gave us complete peace of mind. As someone who knows how serious food allergies can be, I was genuinely relieved and incredibly grateful. From today forward, I will proudly promote your name across all my social media platforms and to my friends in Egypt, London, and anywhere else in the world.
