History of Yangon Zoo
The zoo was established in 1901 in to honour British monarch Queen Victoria and was therefore given the name “Victoria Memorial Park and Zoological Gardens.” The name has since changed to reflect Myanmar’s post-colonial status, with a switch to “Yangon Zoological Gardens and Parks” occurring in 1951.
