Fun for the Family: A Day and Yangon Zoo

History of Yangon Zoo

The zoo was established in 1901 in to honour British monarch Queen Victoria and was therefore given the name “Victoria Memorial Park and Zoological Gardens.” The name has since changed to reflect Myanmar’s post-colonial status, with a switch to “Yangon Zoological Gardens and Parks” occurring in 1951. 

Highlights

Attractions on offer for visitors to the Yangon Zoo include an aquarium, zoological garden and botanical garden – with a list of things to do this long, there really is something for everyone!
Expect to see rhinoceros, hippos, elephants, tigers, lions, mouse deer, red pandas, and many others throughout your day trip, as well as 300 different species of exotic plants and trees.
