Although this hotel has a wonderful setting right on the beach and beautiful lagoon it really is lacking in some areas. Twice we had to ask for our room to be serviced and by 3pm in the afternoon I would have expected it to be done. We stayed both in the garden bungalow and in an OWB. The weather wasn’t great and we wanted to relax in our room which we couldn’t do as hoped our room would be serviced shortly. The Pure restaurant is ok but variable sometimes the service was good but we were severed by a very surely waitress one evening who thought it fine for us to receive our food before our bottle of wine having said this most evenings the servers were lovely. The food is nothing special but pretty ok albeit extremely expensive.The Polynesian buffet was hugely expensive and our appetites are not big enough to do it justice so after much hunting on the internet order rood service instead as there was no other option for food other than the K restaurant whose which only served a tasting menu. All in all a pleasant stay but the hotel really needs to up its game on some fronts

Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea is a GORGEOUS Resort, and I would give it 5 stars except for a few small pet peeves. #1 - I sent 3 emails which went unanswered by them. #2 - Even though we made our reservation 6 months in advance, we did not have a preferred view with our over the water bungalow (this could possibly be the fault of our Costco package, as I'm assuming that people who pay the MOST money get the preferred views!). And #3, the bar by the pool charged us $67 for THREE margaritas (outrageous!). Now for the great points! The over the water bungalows are spacious and beautiful, and even have outlets that accomodate American electrics. The staff decorate your room with gorgeous local flowers and homemade cookies before you enter! You have a ladder to access the water. Don't be swayed by the bad reviews of the restaurant (Pure) - it was excellent! We are from San Diego, and we know great food! Two of the nights we were there we enjoyed a HUGE buffet that included fresh seafood and roasted pig, plus many other Tahitian dishes and fabulous desserts. There was a Tahitian show with lots of dancing while we ate. The other nights our package included an entree, main dish and dessert, all of which were delicious. In the morning from 6 - 10, there is another HUGE breakfast buffet with lots of choices, including fresh crepes, egg dishes, bacon, sausage, potatoes, omelettes, fresh tropical fruit and French pastries. The infinity edge pool is beautiful and has direct access to the "aquarium" like lagoon! The resort will loan you snorkel equipment if you don't have your own, plus kayaks and stand up paddleboards. The front desk is very accomodating and will line up activities for you. Taxis are very expensive, but they seem to "know" people who will come and take you to their shops! There is a very nice pearl shop on the premises and a gift shop with very nice clothing (bought my husband a Tahitian shirt). All the activities that I had booked picked us up right outside the lobby! Best of all, Sofitel Kia Ora is just minutes away from the ferry dock! From what I understand, Sofitel Kia Ora has been there many years, but it is very well maintained and all of the staff we encountered is very friendly and accomodating.

I've really struggled with what feels fair to say about this hotel. The location is beautiful, perfect really - on a wide, white, sandy and clean beach. The snorkeling is amazing - among the best I've ever experienced. We stayed in a "luxury" overwater bungalow which was large, clean and quite nice. Going down the steps right off the deck , stepping into the water and being instantly surrounded by colorful fish and beautiful purple coral was almost other worldly - like swimming in someone's giant aquarium. All big pluses! But, there were maintenance issues that were jaw-droppingly bad. The pool was beautiful (there's only one!), but the furniture around it was sparse, broken, tattered (literal holes in multiple pieces) or uncomfortable (unadjustable recliners that you either had to lay awkwardly on, or sit up) All the umbrellas were down and required professional assistance to open - again, many were broken and had to be jerry-rigged. Towels and service were lacking and the whole area just felt sad. So, if you are a person who likes to sit by the pool lower your expectations a lot and be prepared for absolute self-service. Motel 6's have a better pool set-up than this place. The hammocks on the beach also had big holes in them, the wooden walkways/decks were scuffed, sometimes wobbly and visibly worn. There is virtually no lighting to help you find your way once it's dark. The long wooden sill/counter in our bathroom as as many water rings and nicks as a dive-bar counter. I am happy to say that I thought the restaurant setting was lovely and seemed to have newer furniture in excellent repair. They had music every night which was great. Breakfast is excellent - tons of options and the guy making the omelets/eggs is a fun and friendly food artist. Other than that service is often slow and lackadaisical but everything eventually gets delivered. Dinner was just fine, although nothing we had was exceptional. Sooo - as long as you adjust/lower your expectations you can have a great time here and if you are into relaxing, the beach, no crowds, clear, warm water and seeing lots of tropical fish, this place can work out just fine. Our bungalow was large, clean and comfortable, and the view was lovely. The mini-bar was great and restocked faithfully. But if shabby or unattended bugs you, you might not be that satisfied.

This resort was highly recommended for our 2nd time in Moorea. We asked for a good snorkeling right at the resort and this did not disappoint. We've stayed at the Hilton 10 years ago and wanted to try a new resort. We stayed at a garden bungalow and was happy with it. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I asked for a roll of TP when I passed the housekeeping staff and they insisted that they deliver it to my villa even if I offered to take it. Every staff greets you "Ia Orana" with a smile. The only downside of this resort is that they only have 1 restaurant. So for those looking for variety, you can opt for dining at restaurants outside the resort. This was not a problem for us since we were light eaters and with the jetlag....the tapas at the bar were more than enough for us. One thing that was a highlight for this resort was the expansiveness of the shoreline. It's almost you're at a private island. There's only a few guests which gives you plenty of room to lounge in. Also the waters were calm that stand up paddle boarding was a good activity. Do snorkel under the over water bungalows though coz you will be amazed by big schools of fish. Also the other downside is that forget about early check-in especially if you are jetlagged. They offer late check-outs so no room is available early. They do have a changing room and luggage storage but I badly needed to sleep coz we took a red-eye from LAX. I almost had to beg for a room by 2 p.m. (check in is at 3) coz I was so tired. Overall this was still a good stay for us. Since we stayed at a different resort, it felt like we were in another island despite being here already. We loved it so much that we didn't feel the need to leave the resort for 3 full days until our flight to Bora Bora.

After a difficult start as it was a long wait to check in heavy rains to check in . Yes sat in a Polynesian style lobby but open air main for a cold wet start. The room was amazing very perfect for the surroundings. Shower needed updating but very adequate. Breakfast was excellent and therefore making omelettes and crepes was very skilled. The food in their main restaurant Pure was very good with fresh fish and even the bar which we had a fish burger in was excellent. One night we ordered in room as the bugs were so bad. We stayed in the Horizon bungalow that was like an aquarium at our feet. The beach is beautiful and shallow walk out to swim.
