The room is amazing for the price you pay it’s a good size and the view is great. They really need to think about improving the food quality though. We had the Barbecue Seafood dinner on our first night and it was underwhelming for the price you pay. They also have minimal rooms with bathtub so if you want one you gotta request earlier. I must commend the Sales Exec Diivagankumar. He dealt with our reservation from the beginning and he was a great help. Others really need better training.

My 3 nights stay in Mercury Beach Penang Hotel was memorable as I was meeting my ex-colleagues who were visiting from China. The stay was made more than memorable by the excellent support and help from Mr Chin Peng, the hotel IT Manager who went out of his way to help me open the in-room safe whose motor was not working as it should. Mr Chin spent 2 nights trying to find ways to open the safe but it all didn’t work due a faulty motor. In the end he has to drill through the safe’s door to enable him to open the door and retrieve my belongings inside the safe. Then he has to rush my belongings to the airport as I was flying off on morning of 21 May 2024 at 11.25am. I want to thank Mr Chin Peng and his team in their help to retrieve my belongings in a broken safe. The hotel management should have an active mindset in maintaining all equipment used by hotel guests to ensure for example safe motor should be change after a certain timeframe instead of inconvenient to guest like me causing distress to hotel IT department and me.

A very pleasant comfortable quiet stay overlooking the ocean. The hotel staff were all polite and friendly, especially Bhuyam, Sumon and Raj. The hotel is in a very good position providing easy access by local bus or taxi to the northern island highlights and Georgetown city area. The hotel being right on the clean white sand beach, provides the opportunity for enjoyable relaxation and strolling.

Good 4star hotel

Generally great stay. Check in was quite fast. There is pool and gym which is ok for 4 star hotel. There is also beach although I think you cannot swim there. Breakfast is so-so. Room is quite large and no mineral water is provided as they provide a filtered water tap. Checked out on 11 May 2024 at 6am to catch a plane and the receptionist was very helpful (forgot his name). Happy that since we cannot have breakfast, they prepared sandwich, muffin, fruit and juice. It was raining hard and couldn’t find an online taxi. The receptionist was very helpful by calling a cab. Appreciate that. Minus is location is quite far from city centre.

Location, location, location.... for a very nice view on the sea. Provided you choose a ocean view room which are the only one worth it as the other side is very noisy (main highway). Also good location with regard to public transportation, restaurants, food court and shopping at Tesco/Lotus a 10 minutes walk away. Nice and accommodating front desk staff. OK service room. Poor dining room service (breakfast). The rooms are large but the bathrooms small. Bed is rather comfortable. Good size desk and a sofa. Mini fridge. Not the best noise insulation. Air conditioning has to fight du to the huge window overlooking the sea and getting a lot of sunshine. As said: fantastic sea view :) Service poor. Especially at the restaurant. No good morning. No welcome for breakfast. Just: room number please? No smile from most of the staff there (only literally a couple of exceptions... and I stayed 10 days). Breakfast area can get very crowded so being early (6:30) offers more tranquility and sometimes a great view of the sunrise. Food items are on the poor side with regard to quality (plenty of processed food items) and the breakfast is super repetitive. If included in the rate ok if not I personally would skip it (too expensive for what it is and for the service provided). During weeks the hotels may organize "events" to attract customers. Noisy events with very loud music on the beach side. Until 11 PM or 12 PM (Saturdays). The room on the sea side will get all the noise as the windows are not much of a barrier against the sound waves sent. Another no go for me. Bottom line: in my opinion definitely not a 4 star (but hey the Malay authority in that matter rate them as a 4 star). A good 3 star but still a poor customer experience at the dining area.... and the view is of course a major asset. Room on the noisy and very busy highway side should be avoided unless you really do not mind noise.
