A great location with apartments in buildings of 3, with varying views overlooking the lake. The higher the better and we were in room 816 which entailed 2 sets of stairs to lug the cases but the view was fabulous. If only they had told us that the laundry facilities are behind the door facing you as you enter the building.... There is so much to see and do at and around Lake Tekapo. The observatory is overlooking the lake so hike (or, in our case drive) up to the observatory (the road closes at 4pm). The views are stupendous. We drove to Mount Cook, stopped at the Alpine Lavender Farm. There is so much to do from there. It's a very comfortable stopover and we slept very well there.

Similar to other reviewers, I have to say that the room was so small we had to store luggage in the bathroom - and we only had cabin sized bags. No lake view either.

Very very small room Nowhere to keep suitcases out of the way One case had to go in the bathroom The other was blocking the access to the bed A very narrow window with no view All the facilities in the room were good

Biggest plus of this hotel is its location. Staff at the reception and the restaurant were very friendly as well. But from a "lakeview room" I expect more than a view of the main road, so I might as well have paid for a cheaper room. The shower also took several minutes to finally get warm, which made me feel horrible for wasting so much water. The continental breakfast buffet was delicious, but way overpriced at $40. The bar closed very early and I didn't get a chance to enjoy it.

We were fortunate to stay in one of the Lakeview apartments, such a stunning view, being able to watch the changing landscape. It’s across the road from the supermarket, restaurants and other shops. Also a short walk to the trail up to the observatory and Astro cafe. Breakfast was the only downside. The staff were lovely (everyone we encountered) and hard working but it seemed like it was always out of everything. Compared to other hotels we’d visited across NZ, there wasn’t anything listed for any food issues (gluten or dairy free), and everyone seemed rushed off their feet.
