Enjoyable Stay - but not a proud Accor hotel

Overall a great stay in a wonderful location. The hotel has a large tranquil site with great pool and beautiful grounds that are very well maintained. The rooms are a good size, quiet and we loved the kitchen, laundry, and bath (spa bath room). They were not well cleaned but we managed that no problem. The walk to Kingscliff is awesome As Accor platinum members, aside from logos you would not know it’s an Accor hotel. No mention of it at check-in, no details given. I went back to ask where we go for welcome drink (Seasons at Peppers). There was no upgrade, and we know upgrade rooms were available. A letter was provided that we expected to contain all details so we didn’t ask at check-in in, but not so. We went to Seasons restaurant and found on Fridays and Saturdays between 4 - 5 complimentary wine and platters are provided - very nice but this was not explained anywhere as complimentary for Accor members. We have come to understand some hotel brands under Accor are less inclined to embrace the membership advantages and from our perspective this is definitely one of them. Despite this it’s still good value and we would stay again but ask more questions upon checking and not rely on the letter.

Great location right on the beach. But the Mantra has seen better days - tired carpets, small repairs needed in our room, and no electric kettle (we got one when we complained). No microwave. However, our room was clean, small and comfortable. There’s no restaurant at the hotel, we were directed to a third-party restaurant for breakfast and dinner - it was short walk around a few bends and across the road. That restaurant was quite good - maybe a 4. We picked Mantra based on its 4.1 rating - this should have guaranteed an excellent stay. But when I checked back over the 3 most recent pages of reviews, the average was under 3. Would we stay again, no.

Not what it used to be!

We have previously stayed at this resort and loved it however, this time around we noticed that it’s not what it used to be. General maintenance of the resort isn’t great and the cleanliness is a real downfall. We stayed in a pool view spa room and the buildup of dust was visible throughout. The general feel of the room was not clean. Mould was visible on items within the room and some areas of the room looked as though they had not been cleaned in a long while. Facilities and location of this resort are great with restaurants close by. Purchased a drink at the resort and with only a small selection available and a long wait due to one staff member only, I was very disappointed to receive a half full plastic cup cocktail for $20 - highly recommend visiting one of the nearby bars or restaurants for a decent cocktail. Sadly we will be staying elsewhere next visit!

Wonderful Stay. We really loved the holiday atmosphere, the fantastic pools and the location. Our Pool View room was excellent. There was no on site dining or room service, which was disappointing. The local restaurants were only a very short stroll, next door, so that made up for this partially. They offered a great variety of cuisines, which we enjoyed, but we regularly use in-house dining on our lazy holidays. We would recommend this Resort.

Booked hotel room with pool view, biggest mistake was to even consider Mantra Kingscliff. The room was small and the carpet was filthy and also worn through to the floor underneath at the door opening onto the balcony (which was the size of a matchbox) . There were plantation shutters at the balcony door and when I went to open them a louvre fell off and closer inspection revealed quite a few were broken. Didn’t bother looking at anything else and went to reception to see if they a different room available, was told they were fully booked and they agreed to give me a full refund. Was able to book a one bedroom apartment elsewhere, kitchen, lounge, dining table, spa bath, separate shower, double vanity and cheaper than the disgusting accommodation at the Mantra Kingscliff. It’s about time this industry had a good shake up, if owners of these hotel rooms are not prepared to spend money and keep the accommodation up to standard they should not be allowed to rent them out. Avoid the Mantra Kingscliff. P.S. the reception staff at the new accommodation were exceptional.
