We love coming back to Salt Kingscliff but…

We love going to Mantra Kingscliff, however it would nice if just once we could score a room with some sort of view than a street of houses, we can get that at home! Our room throughout our stay had a lingering musty smell which we advised reception which may be a result of the sink dripping onto the bathroom floor or coming from the washing machine. Our room also had a broken part of the bathroom shutters & a wobbly toilet seat. Our view was of the street & a row of houses across the road resulting in constant vehicle traffic noise. Even though the young lady whom greeted us on arrival was lovely & very professional it would have been nice if we were recognised as returning guests & not asked have we stayed there before. We have never been given a room upgrade ever there & the old chestnut claims of where available starts to get frustrating. It was a busy weekend there as has been at times before but it definitely was not full house. As a Gold Member I do not feel recognised as such whenever a room allocation is given to us & question why we would keep returning?

The Salt Village in Kingscliff is in a fantastic location, close to amenities and a picturesque beach. Unfortunately, the resort is aged and falls very short of its advertised 4 stars. If seeking an ocean view, confirm that this is actually the case. While the gardens are beautiful, the ocean view remained elusive. The first room I had failed the cleanliness bar - soiled toilet seat, accumulated dirt in bedroom chest of drawers, dirty utensils and saucepans, and kitchen drawer front broken. To top it off, I found that I was sharing the bed with hungry bugs waking with a torso covered in large welts. Staff reluctantly offered a choice of other rooms - none of which had the originally booked ocean view and one of which reeked of urine. Lesson here should you decide to book a room is to inspect the room before you accept it. The check-out lass was lovely, bubbly and friendly - the others could take lessons.

The room smelt like mold and cigarettes. The staff are unhelpful at best. They didn’t have any towels for the pool. They don’t have any room service or cleaning unless you pay extra. No wifi either included… is this 2024 or 1994? 2 star hotel!!

I think it's important to know what you are going to get if you do choose to stay here. Firstly, this is NOT a "four star hotel". It could possibly pass as a two star hotel with a nice pool but even that would be a stretch. There is no house keeping, there is no room service (actually there is no service at all), there is no restaurant, there are no pool towels (and no possibility to get fresh towels if needed). There is a basic bar but it closes at 8:30pm on the weekends. The rooms are very dated, tired, musty and quite frankly very dirty. The beds are worn and incredibly uncomfortable and the linen is thredbare. There are no blinds in the room meaning the sun streams in through the gaps in the plantation shutters. It is close to the beach which is a plus and the pool area does look nice and is good for families but is a total zoo if you are looking for a place to relax and unwind. It has potential but unfortunately has been let for for too long. It needs a total refurbishment but I don't forsee that coming anytime soon. Read the reviews and you will see that even the people that rate this place highly (I suspect some of them may be owners of some of the rooms which they rent out) agree that it is past it's prime. If you do need to stay in the area check out Peppers across the road or they are some incredible AirBnBs available in the area which we have since discovered.

We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We love Mantra at Kingscliff. We get there as much as possible! Every birthday, our engagement anniversary, and our wedding anniversary. We love that we can whale watch from our balcony or sunbake on the balcony. The kitchen is great with all we really need. The fridge is the proper size, not one of those tiny ones (thank you for that). There's a washing machine and a dryer which is great. Aircon, yay, thank you so much! The bathroom is complete with all you need although it is aging a tiny bit. Nothing to complain about there. I think if there was anything to whine about, the lounges and cushions are a bit whiffy. Thank you also for having the plantation shutters..... no light blinding me in the morning! All in all, we will keep coming back for as long as we can. We are Accor Members so I suspect that will help us to keep returning! :))
